THE SHIELD image we debuted yesterday was pretty close to final. It’s hard to really tinker with such an iconic costume, so why try? But with a few more of the Red Circle characters available, it was a no-brainer to let an artist of J.G. Jones’ caliber take a stab at redesigning some. Here’s a look at Jones’ character sketch for INFERNO. Come back tomorrow for another sneak peek at the newest members of the DCU.

Oh, and because I’m in a giving mood, we’ve thrown in Jesus Saiz’s final take on the character, which will also serve as a cover, come August.

Solid. I’m sure like almost anyone out there, I know next to nothing about Inferno (and I know a lot about the Crusader characters), but it’s nice to see J.G. involved, and my gut is telling me there’s a reason why JMS is tapping such an obscure character to round out his main cast.

    Smokin’ (sorry).

So is this character going to be related at all to Sun Boy, or is it a whole different thing? Because he doesn’t look boyish at all. Rrrraaoooww.

To tell the truth, …I was expecting a “hero” with a suit.
Looks like we’re going to get a little of the Unexpected.
The Shield looks good… and The Inferno looks really interesting.!!
I’m looking forward to the return of these MLJ- Red Circle Heroes.
Looking forward to seeing The Hangman and The Web…and reading the adventures of these GREAT heroes.
We need a little “new blood” in the DC Universe right now… and these guys will be fun to see in action.
I’m on board… and waiting expectantly for their appearances. Exciting stuff. Good to see very good talent on the books.!! Thanks, DC. Give us great stuff and we’ll follow.

um…is DC trying to rip off Marvel? I’m a little new to the party, but these two ‘new’ characters are remarkably similar to very well-known, well established characters. Maybe their stories are different enough to get away with it, but come on.

I’m just saddened to see the stellar minds of DC stooping to that level.

Exactly how new to the comic game are you? These characters are owned by Archie Comics and are completely different characters. The Shield predates Captain America by about two years, and The Inferno is a circus performer who breathes fires not a fiery android nor a preteen space explorer. DC isn’t “stooping” to any level. They licensed these characters the same way they did with the Impact Comics line. maybe you should do some research before bashing DC.

“Saddened”… Well, that term is so emo… tional.

I think that if you feel “saddened” every time you see an idea recycled in the comic book medium then you’re in for lots of sad surprises.

BTW, don’t look right now to the Marvelverse, because they’re recycling one X-Event like Inferno, recycling Madelyne Pryor, there’s a Jean Grey on the horizon to be revived again (and surely she will eventually die… she should change her name to Easter Queen or something) and Dark Reign is, basically using ideas from the recent past of DC Comics.

It’s not out there the Red Circle Stories and you’re already “sad”…

BTW, I don’t think the DCU needs new blood… -.-

I’m looking forward to many of the old Archie super-heroes returning. However at first glance the new interpretation of Inferno doesn’t exactly ,pardon the pun, light my fire. While I loved the Shield’s look and I’m glad the powers that be didn’t tweak with the costume too much, the Inferno seems rather dull and unimaginative. Now that’s not to say that the series might be a knockout and I’ll be pleasantly surprised, but as I said, at first glance it’s very … underwhelming.

    @ capt_silver_age:
funny, because this is my favorite costume so far.
I like the little torch alot. But I absolutely can’t see how he can grow a mustache so fast… :D
I have never read about these characters before, but I look forward to them.

I thought DYNAMITE comics scooped these two up a while back??
