We take great pride in the fact that it’s taken us over a month to use these two words: Spoiler. Alert.

You’ve read FINAL CRISIS: LEGION OF THREE WORLDS #4, right? If not, please shut down your computer, walk briskly to your nearest comic shop and buy it. Then read it. Understand why we’re doing this? Excited? I hope so. Now click on the headline — or that handy “More…” link below — for some art that will blow you away. Do not say we didn’t warn you. Because we did. Numerous times. I’m saying it again because, by nature, I’m a paranoid creature: SPOILER ALERT.

OK, now that we got all that out of the way — Superboy is back, and starring in the pages of ADVENTURE COMICS, which hits in August from writer Geoff Johns and artist Francis Manapul. Not only are we bringing you some amazing news, but we also have a first look at Manapul’s jaw-droppingly gorgeous artwork, including covers and prelim art he created in preparation for the assignment.

  2. CultOfConner says on :

These are the most beautiful things i have seen in AGES… between this and Power Girl’s book i am the happiest geek in the WORLD!!!

  3. MaMorpheus says on :

It took 3 years to happen, the more worth waiting only. Thank you John, thank you Perez.

    Long Life the Legion.

  4. Duckface says on :

Does this mean he and Bart will be rejoining the Teen Titans? I sure hope so.

  5. Websnap says on :

what the hell, no spoiler alert!!!

    lol, jk.

    looks amazing.

  6. grendel715 says on :

This is great. Now can we please give him a decent costume?

  7. rtvu2 says on :

It does look good! Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes!

  8. richlovatt says on :

    Those pages are fantastic! YES!

  9. Duckface says on :

grendel715 - Seconded. The whole jeans and T-shirt thing don’t work for Wonder Girl, and they don’t work for him either. How are we really supposed to believe they have secret identities when all that’s different is a logo on a shirt?

  10. Lex says on :

I thought Adventure Comics was going to be the new Legion book, but Superboy is the star? That’s less exciting for me.

  11. johnnybacardi says on :

Aw gee- is that all this is about? And here I was hoping for the announcement of the long-awaited Kinetix ongoing series…guess THAT’S not gonna happen anytime soon, is it?

  12. Websnap says on :

    thirded!

  13. Black Manta says on :

the art is beautiful… and i don’t mind the costume… i loved his first appearance costume (the jacket with the shades) but this look is even better

  14. AntonioSugizo says on :

I beg to differ: that jeans and t-shirt thing is the best look he ever had and it’s also an absolute winner with the lazy cosplayers. Don’t you ever change it.

  15. willpayton says on :

I agree Antonio.Simple ,effective and iconic.

I wouldn’t change a thing about his costume. It wouldn’t aid keeping his identity anyway,as long as his face is exposed. The glasses disguise works for Clark,no reason they shouldn’t work for Conner.

That artwork looks amazing! I have a new desktop now. ;)

  17. Kal-El says on :

    Yeaaaaahh!!!!!!!
Right on time with the return of Bart.

Legion of 3 Worlds is the best book of the Final Crisis series. This is “the” event, not Final Crisis itself.

I hope in a future we will see a real Teen Titans book with Superboy, Kid Flash, Wonder Girl and Robin again. The Geoff Johns’ Teen Titans rocks!

  18. Jude Deluca says on :

You guys. He came back in the 31st Century. Which means his body is still dead in the 21st.

    Blackest Night: Conner Vs. Conner.

I’ll have you know this blog is going to single-handedly get me back into the comic store on a weekly basis.

  20. Alex Segura says on :

    You sir, are too kind.

  21. ramaral says on :

I am less than excited about a second-rate Superboy being revived. And sad to see Francis Manapul’s genius artwork wasted on a non-Legion book.

  22. AbrahamNR says on :

So does any death matter in the DCU?

  24. Duckface says on :

    ^^ Apparently not!
I’m glad to see them both back, as I didn’t think it was time for them to die (though Conner’s worked for dramatic purposes)

My only problem with this constant death-resurrection thing is that it ages the characters. I can see why DC would like to keep its characters somewhat timeless (a la that other publishing house) but I don’t think this is the way to do it. Death becomes a less memorable moment as well as less of a threat. That said, if I see anything like that One More Day business in DC I will throw a fit.

  25. adohall says on :

And the Legion? Are they co-starring in Adventure comics? Or will they have their own book? Is Superboy only starring in occasional issues of Adventure Comics, such as the one featured here? I’m really confused (and potentially very disappointed). Adventure Comics #0 was all about the Legion (OK - and Superboy). I was really hoping for a series about the same adult Legion that Geoff Johns presented in Action Comics last year (just before the Brainiac arc). In fact I was convinced that was what we were gearing up for… (please tell me I was right…)

  26. Jude Deluca says on :

But this might stink for Tim and Cassie. Sure they’re gonna be thrilled he’s back, but it might be hard for them. They spend almost three years mourning him, and then just as they’ve finally moved on, BOOM.

  27. Kid Zoom says on :

I’ve waited three long years for this moment and now it has finally come. The art looks great. Thank you so much for posting this. I think I might cry.

  28. darkwarrior says on :

I’m real happy that Superboy is back, now I hope that Geoff gives Superboy a better costume than he is wearing right now, or at least return to his first one. Besides all that, I’m looking forward to this.

  29. batmansgirl says on :

    THANK YOU, DC!!!!!!

I wish Kon would come back to the Teen Titans, though. It’s not the same without him… but hey, I’ll be happy with Kon in Adventure Comics for now. :)

  30. Theozilla says on :

To Jude Deluca: Conner’s body in the 21st century can’t become a Black Lantern because his body is being kept in the revival stasis in the Fortress of Solitude, Conner was revived the same way Superman was revived, only it took longer because Superboy is half human and had much worse wounds than Superman did.

  31. Jude Deluca says on :

Hmm. You do have a point. Still, to point out further information, there’s a thousand year gaop between Starman getting Conner’s body and Conner coming back. We don’t know how well these black rings are able to function when it comes to finding a body and zombifying them. We still don’t know how and when Thom found that Chrysalis and buried it. And the Brainiacs never stated WHAT caused the damage to Conner’s body, so there is still the possibility that it really was Prime, or that it suffered worse damage IF it becomes a Black Lantern. I hope I don’t start one of those fan arguments.

  32. Oracles Bird says on :

Thank you, DC!! I’m so excited Conner is back! This is the just awesome! Bart and Conner! I love it! Two of my favorite heroes are back in action. I can’t wait for Adventure Comics!

  33. adohall says on :

Geoff has just posted on this in his blog:
    http://www.geoffjohns.com/2009/04/hes-baaaaaack/

This is very good news - that the Legion will be co-featuring in Adventure Comics. I am mightily relieved, and once again looking forward to ‘Adventure’.

I have to say.. it’s a pity the DCU blog didn’t make that clear from the start. A few temporary frowns could have been avoided.

Have been a fan since he broke out of Cadmus. Under Geoff’s direction he only got stronger and sorted into a prime member of the DC Universe. I knew in my heart this day would come as Conner is too good a character.
And with this I say thank you one and all and yes, I did cheer a whoop at the artwork, come on, it ROCKS!

  36. ericducos says on :

#1. This site is freakin awesome. Nirvana for a DC fan.

#2. I love these new co-features. I’m assuming the Legion will be a full-on co-feature in ADVENTURE? It’s not made clear, but they said “co-feature” and I would love to see their own 10 page story and not just running around in the background of a Superboy book. Either way, I’m there!

#3. Really hoping ADVENTURE will be Krypto’s regular home too.

#4. Really, really hoping Bart as Kid Flash will be a regular partner for Barry when the FLASH ongoing starts.

    #5. Geoff Johns rocks.

DC - thank you, thank you, thank you! First Bart and now Conner! You’ve just made my day with sneaking this artwork. I can’t wait for Adventure Comics now, especially with having both Conner and the Legion to look forward to. And having Geoff Johns at the reins storywise.

This summer just keeps looking better and better between Battle for the Cowl, Darkest Night, the World of Krypton storyline and now this. It gives me hope that maybe someday we’ll even get the team of Tim, Bart, Cassie and Conner back on Teen Titans where they belong, maybe with Jamie as Blue Beetle added into the mix.

I just can’t stop smiling over this news! :)

  39. killboi says on :

Lo3W is awesome……..johns proved again why he is a master story teller

  40. grendel715 says on :

You know why it’s a bad costume? You can walk into Wal-Mart and walk out fifteen minutes later with exactly the same costume. He’s not even trying with that outfit.

  41. cpahl2000 says on :

I´m so happy with Connor´s return. Since his death, I think not only DC but Teen titans lost a lot and I can´t wait to read AC # 1, I hope he is part of the roster for the tittle.

  42. bohemiacomicsreader says on :

The last issue of Legion of 3 Worlds has got me really excited for Adventure Comics.

  43. mambazo says on :

Quit complaining about his costume, and just be happy that he’s back. Yeesh, some comic fans will whine about anything, it’s just sad.

  44. newsuperboy says on :

yesssssssssssssss he is back I love it and on.

  45. DS69 says on :

    1. This is the GREATEST news ever. LSH back in Adventure with Superboy!
    2. DO NOT CHANGE Connors Costume. It is part of his character!
    3. Francis Manapul’s artwork is UNBELIEVABLEY AWESOME!
    4. Thanks to Dan, Geoff & Francis for this great book, (can’t wait)!

  46. Doc Bane says on :

For the last 3 years I have been waiting for Kon’s return. His first appearance was the first issue I picked up when I got back into comics.

Killing off Conner and Bart destroyed the Teen Titans comic in my opinion. I dropped it shortly after Bart’s death.
Now that they are both back (in the same mini series even!) I am really looking forward to reading the interactions between Bart, Wondergirl, Robin and Kon.

However I think Kon wont be around the present for very long as I think he will take off and join the Legion in the future. He does owe them his life after all.

Either way, I am ecstatic that he is back!

  47. mlm13 says on :

Eh, I didn’t mind Superboy being killed off when it happened, primarily because (a) I figured somebody would be able to bring him back, and (b) if it wasn’t him, it would’ve been Dick Grayson. No offense, but that would’ve been 1000 times worse than killing off Conner.

  48. Robot 6 @ Comic Book Resources - Covering Comic Book News and Entertainment » Was this trip really necessary? says on :

I am overjoyed to see both Conner and Bart Allen back. Now we can see how the characters were beginning to develop before their untimely deaths.

  50. Doctor Trapp says on :

I loved and followed Superboy from the time he debuted in the Reign of the Supermen storyline, to his solo series, and through to Young Justice.

Then he went over to Teen Titans and I followed him over there too. I love Geoff Johns and think everything he does is golden but… Teen Titans was the only exception. I hated it. He took Superboy, whom I loved, and basically stripped away his personality and everything else that made him unique.

When he died in Infinite Crisis, I didn’t even care. The character I had loved was pretty much gone, except for the name, at the end of Young Justice. Part of me was even glad that he died because I didn’t have to look at what had been done to one of my favourite characters anymore.

Now he’s back. As of now, I also don’t really care about that. Not unless Johns uses this opportunity to change his method of writing Superboy. Giving him his personality back, and bringing back his actual costume (his second one)are things that need to happen.

I’ll give it a shot and can only hope that Superboy truly is coming back from the dead, and not just some guy with most of his powers.

  51. pookdogg says on :

I’m happy that he’s back as well but I do think that he should change his costume. When he quit being Superboy is when he changed to the jeans & T-shirt. He said that prime was right that he quit trying to be superboy. SO now that he’s back & HE’S SUPERBOY he should “suit up”. He should get a cosutme that inspires people like a mix of the future titans costume & his old superboy costume…just my thoughts.
