Few creators are as synonymous with projects as Mike Grell is with WARLORD. The fantasy saga, which has appeared in many forms over the years, returns in full force this month in a new ongoing series from Grell and artist Joe Prado, featuring all the powerful elements that made the book a hit many times over, continuing the adventures of Tara, Shakira, Tinder and the rest of the classic cast. But no worries — you don’t need a doctorate in WARLORD (though, that’s not a bad thing, per se). The book is created with new readers in mind. Wait, you want to see art? Well, my friends, you came to the right place. Scroll down for a look at the first issue. Don’t say we never give you anything.

This June, the Bat-books will experience a bit of a face lift. In addition to having a new Batman roaming the Gotham rooftops, DETECTIVE COMICS #854 will also feature a new protagonist. Specifically, Kathy Kane — Batwoman. Now, we’ve seen a few images and a preview of the first issue, but that surely can’t be enough, can it? Check out some more amazing interiors from artist J.H. Williams, who’s teaming with writer Greg Rucka on the series.

Well, it’s Day Two here at The Source, in case you were wondering about it all being an expertly crafted April Fool’s joke. And, I have to say, we’re all pretty blown away by the great response and linkage to the launch. Thanks to IGN, Newsarama, The Beat, Robot 6, Sean Collins, Comics Worth Reading and everyone else that took the time to toss a link our way.
Speaking of linking, some have expressed concerns about the lack of comments. Well, you can comment — you just need to click through to the actual post, as the home page really hosts previews of the posts themselves. I’ll do my best to answer as many relevant and politely-phrased comments as I can feasibly get to over the course of the day. So please, engage and chime in.
Also, I want to give a big thank you to our Creative Services team — Ron Perazza, Dave McCullough, Jeff Rowe, Mike Zagari, Jesus Reyes, Jonathan Chong and the gang did a bang-up job making this site a reality, and these ramblings look nice and shiny.
Also, remember we have a DC NATION Facebook group that is always happy to accomodate new members and, if you’re so inclined, you can follow DC NATION on Twitter. There are permalinks to both on our left-hand link list. But enough housekeeping. We’ve got some more cool stuff lined up for you today, so stay tuned.

FLASH: REBIRTH #1 has been out a little over a day and the reviews are beginning to pour in. David Pepose, over at NEWSARAMA, had this to say in his “Best Shots” review of the issue:
Johns’ main strength in Flash is the same he had with Green Lantern: he knows what makes Barry Allen tick. While Hal is a study in recklessness and charismatic defiance, Barry is a little more down to earth. “This man refused to believe the line between good and evil blurred like the scarlet and gold he wore.” Methinks this might be a theme, one that may even be as resonant as overcoming fear. Of course, it remains to be seen if Johns can make this more laid-back character into as engrossing a protagonist as Green Lantern: it is true that the scenes where Barry mopes are a little on the slow side… even for a man who is perpetually late.
The art in this is pretty fantastic. Ethan Van Sciver proves that you can’t rush quality — while some of his crowd scenes are a little too busy for my liking, he more than makes up for it with the simplistic beauty of a Flash in high speed. The scene of Barry and Hal walking through the Flash Museum, passing by a larger than life statue of them both that screams “The Brave and the Bold” while subtly showing Wally West’s Rogues’ Gallery is a stroke of genius on both creators’ part. Also — Van Sciver’s cartoony statue of Impulse is a great Easter Egg for fans of the original run.
FLASH: REBIRTH #1 is on sale now. You can find a preview right here.

If you’re a discerning reader, you’ve probably figured out that every other week or so, our very own Dan DiDio talks shop at NEWSARAMA. The fun twist is that all the questions come directly from fans and can range from the insightful to the surreal. NEWSARAMA‘s just posted the latest edition of “20 Questions and 1 Answer with Dan DiDio,” and Dan reveals some interesting facts about our plans for the Red Circle characters:
First off Dan, is there any update that you can give in regards to J. Michael Straczynski’s projects starting up? You’d said that the Red Circle (Archie Heroes) stories had been pulled out of Brave and the Bold into their own projects, and that they’d be launching sometime later this year. Is there any closer date you can give on that?
Dan DiDio: Yeah – I can update you on that. He’s doing a four-part series called The Red Circle, which features four of the prime characters from those series of books: The Shield, The Web, Hangman and the Inferno. He’ll be writing this four part story that introduces them, which will also include a semi, soft link of their four origins, and more importantly, setting a direction for each of these characters, and the series will follow after that. We’re looking for that to start in late summer.
Newsarama: And he’s writing another project on top of that as well?
DD: Because we moved these out of Brave and the Bold, he’s moved back on to Brave and the Bold as well – so he’s working on The Red Circle and Brave and the Bold. But he does have other projects with DC in addition to those.
The story also features some news on ALL STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN, the creative team behind ACTION COMICS’ own co-feature and more on WEDNESDAY COMICS. Definitely worth your clicking.

What’s more fun than Scott Kolins’ work on the SOLOMON GRUNDY mini-series? Well, Scott Kolins’ work on Solomon Grundy battling Bizarro, of course. If the cover to SOLOMON GRUNDY #2 doesn’t hook you, then the following preview certainly will. Again — Solomon Grundy. Bizarro. Go for it. SOLOMON GRUNDY #2 hits stores next week.

Over at IGN, Batman Group Editor Mike Marts talks about his editorial office’s unique way of juggling the many characters populating the Bat-universe during and after BATTLE FOR THE COWL:
IGN Comics: Mike, you’re giving us a bit of a look at how the Batman editorial team plans out titles and tracks characters with some shots of what you call “The Wall”. How long have you been using something like this and what necessitated doing something like this?
Mike Marts: We in the Bat Group — myself, editor Michael Siglain and assistants Harvey Richards and Janelle Siegel – have been using “The Wall” technique for two or so years now… but for the first year and a half, it was all in our heads!
When we started diving into the complexity of Battle for the Cowl (and all that follows it), we soon realized we needed something a bit more graphic and “in your face”. There were just too many characters moving in too many different directions. So was born “The Wall”.
IGN Comics: Is this something you plan on working with into the June relaunch?
Marts: Definitely. The June plans have already crept on to The Wall in a few places. I’m not saying where!
BATTLE FOR THE COWL #2 hits 4/8.
