Just what happens after “Deathtrap”? Well, lots. In #72 alone, Wonder Girl finds her leadership challenged, the team faces the Fearsome Five and well, you get this as a first page:
Hm. Ominous. Let’s check in with TEEN TITANS editor Brian Cunningham for some more details. Take it away, Brian:
“Which fallen Teen Titan lies in that coffin?
You’ll get your first glimpse come June 17, when Teen Titans #72 hits stores. It’s part one of a three-part opus that will literally shatter this group in ways you won’t expect. I know that statement can tend to come off as overblown hype, but believe you me, it’s gut-check time for this bunch.
I’m willing to bet my prize 1976 DC calendar that Titans fans will be pretty stoked when they read Bryan Q. Miller and Joe Bennett’s brutal three-issue story for our teen heroes. It’s relentless in how much punishment is dished out. And I’m talking punishment on so many levels — between team members, between good guys and bad, and even between bad guys and bad.
Grueling choices must be made throughout, and all actions have dire consequences. Some, as you can plainly see, are much more horrible than others.
I mean, c’mon, I wouldn’t bet my ‘76 DC calendar on just anything!”

Sounds exciting but when are things going to cool down for the titans? I mean what I enjoyed most about Geoffs run was the way I related to the characters but it seems like everytime I read titans nowadays its just them in perilous danger and everything will change after this story! and then someone else dies! and then more life changes! I just want for them to chill and take down some bad guys with no blood spewing and no random pointless death. Just my 2-cents and I’m not trying to bring down any writers with my comment. I just think titans deserve a breath of fresh air.
I agree. First we had to deal with Mckeever’s slice and dice every other issue and now this? And it seems every 5 issues or so it’s a “..change that will shatter the group!!!” or “The Teen Titans will not be the same again!”. Some stability would be nice.
I couldn’t agree more! That’s what made all the great Teen Titans runs so great! Look WAY back at Marv Wolfman and his run. He made sure the titans had time to just chill, same for Geoff Johns and his run. Now instead of the Teen Titans building friendships and a family, like they always have in the past, they’re just running around chasing the bad guys.
Heh. I suppose it’s not an issue of Teen Titans unless a member gets slaughtered.
@SonOfBaldwin: Well, Geoff needs Black Lanterns!
(Running gag from last year’s convention circuit, for those who don’t recognize it.)
Remember when being kids was about having fun?
@Kelson: haha yes yes he does. hopefully the blackest night wont be bad. im really lookin forward to do.
aqua man? idk about that, but he definitely DOES need black lanterns lol
“Some stability would be nice.”
I think the DCU will be all Death’d-out by the end of the summer. Then they can worry about character development and all that other nonsense we crave.
i remember when folks used to say that the teen titans was about younger heroes or sidekicks needing a place to get together with other heroes their own age to relax and know what it feels like to be a teenager. if it was just about fighting evil, then they should’ve just stayed at home!
and as for the death, it’ll probably be something lame, like wendy dies. or they’ll bring someone new onto the team one issue prior, just so they can kill them off.
WHY IS IT ALWAYS TITANS?
It’s like they think “Oh, we’ve got plenty, derp derp derp.” It makes one start to wonder why kids even join this team, if it’s got the highest freakin’ mortality rate of all the teams in the DCU and usually from villains the newer kids haven’t even MET before. I mean, you have a smart kid like Jaime Reyes on the team–what the hell is he doing there? He’s got a better chance of survival hanging with his crew down in El Paso. RUN, BEETLE, RUN. He’s too smart to be hanging with Teen Suicide Squad.
How about instead of another pointless death that makes the characters go to yet another funeral and mope about in a rather boring depression, they have ‘em, IDK, have a solid win for once? Have someone ALMOST die but their team-mates actually manage to pull through for them, like friends and heroes do?
You know, stop going for lame shock value and write a GOOD STORY? That’d be nice. I guess it’s too much to expect when cheap deaths are 10x easier, but it sure would be nice.
Unless there’s no one in the casket, guess I’ll be dropping the title this summer, and sticking to Booster Gold.
People generally don’t pick up a teen book for “BRUTALITY!!!” I watch Metalocalypse for that.

No, I’m not stoked about “brutal” and “Teen Titans.”
It looks like Conner isn’t coming back to the team (but “Adventure Comics” sure has me excited) which isn’t good news for the Titans. Still, if Bart shows up from time to time and Tim can take an occasional break from “Red Robin” or whatever he’ll be doing, this book could turn around. But not if the characters are constantly slipping on each others’ blood and body parts.
I am guessing Eddie might die since he is powerless, or maybe Kid Eternity will “die.”

Get my bet in the Body of Jericho, are the dead…
Read Comics or Die……
Death if certainly overused in comics nowadays. However if it serves the story and has meaning I’m not agianst it. I don’t care for arbitrary or pointless deaths though.
Who is this book being written for? Snuff film enthusiasts? Killing off another Teen Titan is a cheap trick pulled out of an empty hat by a desperate editorial team.
Yeah, just hire a good writer and let him write the good stories about good characters. It’s not a high concept of success, it’s what happened when Geoff was writing it. Call to Paul Cornell, for frag’s sake. Dude know his craft and he’s without ongoing.
Jeez, what are they tring to do? We start with Johns, who creates a very interesting and stable team, which is later shooken up by the death of Superboy. Soon later, Johns leaves the book and is replaced by Mckeever, who endlessly shakes up the teams stability, not allowing any of the characters develop or bond with each other(seeing as how the roster changes too fast for anyone to get to know one another). Then, when the team is finally revamped and filled with brand new members,(including Milestone hit, Static)it’s decided that this team won’t be allowed grow either.
All you need to do to make this book great is:
Give. Them. Stability.
I’ve been keeping with this book since the beginning, hoping that it will eventually get better. But now, turning the once loved Jericho into a villain again, tearing apart the Titan’s teams again, slashing the fans hopes again.
Please. Please, give us what we want.
P.S:
Well, I’m about to sound a bit fairweather now, but…..if you kill Static I’m dropping the book, and anything related to it. Oh, and having Superboy back on the team would be nice.
I’m also sick of the rehashing of old stories, the killing of titans, and the constant roster changes. I dropped this book a long time ago without any regret.
They need to do something fresh with this book and stop retelling the same “Titans Tomorrow” “Evil Anti-Titans” and “Titans Hunt” stories.
