You’ve seen Red Tornado and Red Volcano. How about Red Torpedo?

Being such faithful Source readers, I have no doubt you all saw our initial Red Tornado news. But to keep you all up-to-date on that front, we snagged some of cover artist Ed Benes’ pencils for the second issue of the mini-series from writer Kevin VanHook and artist Jose Luis, showing off the character known as Red Torpedo.

RED TORNADO #1 hits 9/1.

Are Red Potato and Red Tomato far behind? Or the Poe-inspired Red Amontillado? ;) JK, I like how Red Torpedo’s costume echoes Red Tornado’s older one; I’m interested to see where all this is going.

I’d love to see a moratorium on the Michelangelo’s Pietà homages. It so overdone.

This Red Torpedo doesn’t look too much like the Golden Age Red Torpedo, Jim Lockhart, who has been used intermittently since then. Is this a reimagining of that particular Red Torpedo’s role (like Shining Knight Ystina differing from Sir Justin), or a completely different one (like the Golden Age and Silver Age Red Tornados)? Pardon my ignorance of the character, I am not particularly well versed in this area of the DCU…

kunstgriff, you seem much better verse in this than some of us! I had no idea “Red Torpedo” was already a character.

    This looks cool though. :D

Thanks, DarkeSword. To be honest, I only learnt about the Golden Age Red Torpedo a week ago due to a blog post by someone else! And I do agree with you, this version looks pretty cool…
