Well, we’re one week in and response to the first issue of WEDNESDAY COMICS has been amazingly positive. We even got some photos out of it.
So, we’re back for another installment of TUESDAY TUNE-UP, our weekly WC feature, where the basic question is: What’d you think? What strip did you like best? What surprised you? What left you curious and excited for more? Let us know here in the comments.
And, as promised, we’ll be cycling through all the WEDNESDAY COMICS strips to show you a page each week before the issue hits. This week, we’ve got DEADMAN, by Dave Bullock and Vinton Heuck (with colours by Dave Stewart), which looks quite lovely, if I do say so myself.
Make with the click. Hopefully this’ll tide you over until WEDNESDAY COMICS #2 hits tomorrow.

I was quite excited about the first installment of Wednesday Comics; and even drove an hour out of my way to get it. But I was kind of disappointed. The art was fantastic, but all of the stories were very short on substance. And I think the main problem was the layouts. With about four times as much room as a typical comic, I want to see about four times as much art and about four times as much story.
There simply wasn’t enough for a newcomer to want to come back.
I think all of these stories will be fleshed out before the end. But if the main purpose of Wednesday Comics is to hearken back to the Dailies, I think you’ve fallen short. The Dailies usually had three tiny panels. There was no room for wasted space. Story-telling had to be packed into each panel to warrant a continuation.
[...] overwhelmingly positive. It should therefore come as no surprise that DC comics is, thanks to the DC Universe: The Source blog, giving us a preview of this week’s issue of Wednesday [...]
Thank you for the spoiler!
I too went out of my way to get hold of the first issue.
I was very impressed and it will be added to my pull list :o)
My shop sold out, but they were nice enough to snag me a copy.
Love it, love it, love it. The stories were either cute, exciting, sexy, or some combination. The art was all pretty gorgeous. The colors on the Wonder Woman was a bit muddy, but I liked the story enough. Everything being out of continuity gives the stories a real “What’s going to happen next?” feel. I was expecting a lot from it and I was still overwhelmed by how impressive it was. Definitely tossing it at everybody I know.
I’m in for the long run! Great work!
I enjoyed the concept thought it was a brilliant idea, but at the end of these 12 weeks I feel like I will be let down in terms of content on the stories themselves. Sure there is plenty of great content packed into each issue but 1t takes more then 12 pages to tell a good story. But of course my biggest complaint is the $4 I already spend on an average week $20 at my comic shop I just cant afford to add something that wont add up to be much. And of course knowing DC this will be put into a tpb sometime in the next coming months.
The first issue was great, and I can’t wait for all the rest of them to follow. Here’s a vote for keeping this project going all year, every year!
I love the concept and looked through the issue… but was a little disappointed that all the strips seem to take place out of continuity…. while it’s nice to see old times, I think I’d rather see “in continuity’ work…..
I alsothink that there oughta be a place in the Wednesday comics for a specifically humor page.. like a revival of Sugar and Spike or Captain Carrot..
But I love love love the artwork .. uniformly fantastic.. beautiful.. and on newsprint!!
Picking this up this week at my LCS.
