Batgirl don’ shiv.
Overall I like it. I guess Babs has been raiding Nightwing & Flamebird’s closet though.
Erm… ew. What’s with the purple padded side sections? I like the cowl and the new utility strap on the leg, but the strange side fabric ruins it.
So its a customised babs costume. The purple sides look like Steph was a little wide LOL. Wouldn’t the leg ‘utility belt’ make walking and running a right pain.
It’s very ‘Steph’, though. As Spoiler and as Robin she had that extra little ‘belt’ around her leg.
Don’t like the purple. We know she’s the artist formerly known as Spoiler. Moving on.
Mhmmm. I think her costume matches the design for the new Nightwing and Flamebird. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.
The criminals remind me of the mutants from the Dark Knight Returns, so are all the earlier covers just her changing her costume and trying out different designs?
Lose the leg belt and I’ll be fine with this.
Sorry. Boring Batgirl, boring costume. still will give the issue a shot. Don’t see the point though. But it sure does fit a somewhat lighter mood compared to when Cassandra was batgirl. I still prefer Cass.
I know a lot of people are gonna hate it, but I like it, mainly for the spiked boots and resemblance to the Spoiler costume (I don’t particularly like the Spoiler costume, but I like the idea. It makes sense).
That’s totally the “mutant gang” she fighting.
@ pulsar: I prefer Cass too!
I don’t get it. At San Diego Comic-Con, the entire panel of artists, writers, and editors made such a huge deal about how “sexy” this new costume was going to be. They said it several times and all started drooling over it.
…this is it?
This is by far the least sexy of the Batgirl covers I’ve seen yet. Combine this with the questionable choice of main character and I’d say this book is going in a very bad direction.
But that’s just my opinion. Is everyone else digging this?
@ emeraldlatenight: Yeah, I really dig the costume! It is a nice combo of Dark Bats, Babs Batgirl, and the Spoiler costume. I think Lee Garbett may render it a little bit better than Phil Noto does though.
The thigh-pouches are a little over-the-top and the color scheme doesn’t do much for me, but it’s a lot better than what I was imagining when they kept talking about how “sexy” it was going to be. Thank goodness for no high heels.
I’ll continue to give this book a chance, but I really do hope that DC has something good planned for Cassandra.
I Liked !!! Just the purple things on the side of her its kind of weird… But Steph its going to put some personality in the Batgirl again… Cassie its past…
I really, really like Mr. Miller’s work at DC so far and I have to say that new blood in the Bat family is a great thing and that I think that Stephanie is going to make a great Batgirl and I think that the costume looks uniquely her own and that’s the best part.
Absolutely hideous.
Horrible. DC what are you thinking?
Cassie Cain will always be my favorite Batgirl, there’s no doubt about it. Even as much as I dig Babs (especially as played by Yvonne Craig in the 60’s Batman TV series), Cassie’s short-lived comic was one of the best DC published at the time and built up to one of my favorite rivalries ever: Cassie vs. Lady Shiva. So freaking cool.
With all of that said, I did like the first issue of the new BATGIRL. I’ve always liked Steph, she was my favorite of Tim Drake’s girlfriends, and I’m glad to see her getting her own solo spotlight. I hope DC treats Cassie right in light of this switcheroo, but for now I’ll enjoy the new Batgirl and I do like the looks of this new costume.
I hate the new design. It reminds me too much of the new Flamebird and Nightwing costumes. I do like the spiked look on the side of the boots. It’s the part that reminds me of a Batman type costume other than the cowl and cape. Even the Bat symbol looks more like the Nightwing symbol. I don’t mind Stephanie being Batgirl. I always figured that Dixon introduced her to eventually go from Spoiler to Batgirl anyway. Never really liked the idea of the Huntress becoming Batgirl and I couldn’t care less about Cassandra. I always enjoyed Babs. Guess that says something about my age since I remember reading the comics when she was Batgirl.
I think it is a little too much of a bit of the “Bat” characters. Make something completely new, I mean it looks like a cross between Huntress/Original Batgirl and Batman.
I like this but I’m all over extended with the Blackest Night Deal so I think I’ll get back issues of 1 and 2 in a few months and whatever else. I’m all about the zombies right now.
I see parts that remind me of Barbara’s costume, Huntress costume, and Batwoman. I like it though. the leg pouches look out of place and make me think of Deadpool. Awesome cover though.
O OK thanks for the image!
when I 1st saw the image @ 1st I was thinking her suit looks like a batgirl version of the new Nightwing and Flamebird! LOL!
I tried to dig the new Batgirl, but just ain’t feeling the love. This suit didn’t help. :/
yeah I posted earlier about it looking like Nightwing & Flamebird, guess the post got deleted. That was my first post, this is my last. If you don’t want positive or negative feedback DC, don’t give a comment area.
I like it and its echoes of Spoiler. Just lose the leg pouches and it’s golden for me.
Hey, when we click on the picture, it takes us to the red X of death. It’s been like that for hours now, can you guys fix it?
Not sure about the costume, but am very curious to see where this goes with Steph as Batgirl.
Something I have noticed and I would like your thoughts on this:
People who hate Steph as Batgirl are mostly fans of Cass who, to them, was the first Batgirl they knew.
People who don’t mind or like Steph as Batgirl, grew up with Babs as Batgirl.
Thoughts?
Oh, and I agree, that’s supposed to be sexy?
Purple stripe has got to go, otherwise it’d be good.
That’s frickin’ kick ass to me!
However, in having had said that I’d personally ditch all together the ‘leg pouches’ (just how impractical wearing those while walking or in a fight would they be, LOL) as well as change the purple on her costume to red (including the inside of her cape) as well as the utility belt and bat insignia being changed to red also in order to match even more to that of Batwoman’s own.
Man I REALLY wish Bette was Batgirl but Steph is better then some all together out of no where invented newbie I suppose in the end.
I really like this costume. It keeps in touch with the same basic Batgirl costume that Barbra Gordon wore, but it adds modern touches, and the purple looks great, while paying tribute to the spoiler costume. I think it’s a perfect blend. I like costumes that aren’t overly sexified. And spoiler has never worn costumes that showed a lot of skin. I like it a lot.
I agree with others - too much like Nightwing & Flamebird; not original at all. I like her costume as seen in the first issue, which is a throw-back to the original Batgirl costume. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. This is a new series that I really want to see succeed and I think too many changes is going to scare people off from this. Personally, I was never a big Spoiler fan…I liked her when she was Robin, but didn’t follow her much when she was Spoiler - I was hoping to become a new fan of this Batgirl. I guess I’m still on the fence.
@Doc Bane: I think there’s just a lot of disappointment among Cass fans about how the character has been treated, not necessarily that we’re totally opposed to Steph as Batgirl. Babs isn’t going anywhere, and likely never will, but I think a lot of people think that DC is trying to kick Cass under the rug.
Of course, it’s too soon to say what DC is going to do with Cass. It seems to me that it’d be a waste of a great comic friendship if she’s not utilized in Batgirl alongside Steph at some point.
The leg pouches have to go and I could live without the purple stripe. (But definitely leave the inside of the cape purple, or maybe go to purple as the main color?) I think the bat-symbol will look less Nightwing-ish when her hair’s not blowing over the bat ears… or at least I hope so.
Doc Bane: Interesting insight, and I fit. (I grew up with Babs, don’t give a flip about Cass, and am fine with Steph.)
Talos1: If Batgirl were being positioned as Batwoman’s sidekick, the red might work. (Though it might not, since Steph’s blonde.) But she’s not.
And I think I’ll be dropping this book from my pull list now.
The colors seem to be odd on Noto’s cover. Take a look at Lee Garbett’S blog, there you can see his original Batgirl design.

Looks like Nightwing/Flamebird’s current digs. I liked Cass as BG best. I’ve grown tired of multiple people wearing an icons costume. If it ends of being New Earth Bette then I’ll pick up the book.
I think the basic idea of putting a college-aged Stephanie Brown in the Batgirl role and trying to give her that Yvonne Craig sex appeal is a good idea. Elevating Brown in the Batman mythos was a big deal for a certain segment of fandom and I would love to see the stats on the number of “awakenings” provoked by Craig during the ’70s. It has the potential to make two different groups of fans happy.
That said, this costume is a train wreck. It is neither sexy, nor interesting.

I immediately thought of Nightwing and Flamebird too… although I like their costumes so thats ok.
Personally I liked the Spoiler character and don’t know why she was changed to Batgirl to begin with. If you’re keeping so much of her old costume why didn’t just call the comic Spoiler and forgo all the bad relations with DC’s readers? DC’s pissed the Babs fans, pissed the Cassie fans and now she’s still got half her old costume anyway. It seems this has been miss handled from the start and is pleasing no one. Talk about hitting the bullseye of the no win scenario.
Thanks for posting those links, guys! The costume actually does look a LOT better in those pics than the one posted in this blog entry. It makes me feel a tiny bit less nervous. I’m really trying to give this book a shot.

WHY IS BATGIRL FIGHTING A MUTANT?
I like the sketches on the blog better (the eggplant looks out of place here) but the rest of it I love. It’s very Steph and perfect for her new run. Can’t wait!
For real? I’m not too thrilled by having Steph as the new Batgirl. Apart from my personal opinion of she being quite annoying, she was never really a part of the bat-family, not enough for being Batgirl that is. Dating Robin don’t makes you fit for the role. I think she’s more like the Huntress style then Batgirl. She was good enough as Spoiler, and it would open more interesting possibilities with Tim and another members of the bat-family than being Batgirl.
Also, this makes Bruce a liar. Not long before he died, during the Batgirl mini-series, he told that Cassandra would never be alone anymore, that now she was going to have a family. So you guys just tossed another character into limbo and destroyed another. Nice going, DC.
make bette batgirl now that she’s attending gotham university… leave spoiler as spoiler, cause i can’t see this working out for her in the long run… and the outfit reminds me of the chick in the george clooney batman film… really not likeing the outfit…
but hey that’s just me…
