Step into J. Michael Straczynski’s BRAVE AND THE BOLD

Ever wonder what a down-and-out street thug would do with super powers?

Or what J. Michael Straczynski would do at DC Comics?

DC’s longtime superhero mash-up series THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD welcomes a new pairing of heroic proportions. J. Michael Straczynski, writer and creator of the sci-fi hit, Babylon 5 and BAFTA-award nominated screenwriter of Changeling, joins forces with rising star illustrator Jesus Saiz (OMAC PROJECT, CHECKMATE) as the series’ dynamic new writer-artist team starting with issue #27, on sale September 16.

Featuring an all-star line-up of DC favorites including Batman and The Flash teaming up with heroes like Blackhawk and Dial H for Hero, each issue is an unpredictable adventure, exploring the many dimensions of heroism.

It’s timeless stories of action and sensation, with Straczynski adding a new depth of characterization to DC’s celebrated heroes with modern perspective and style, making THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD a definite source of excellent comic storytelling and a must-read series.

BRAVE AND THE BOLD #27 hits tomorrow. And we’ve got a slew of pages from the first issue.

And where might Hero Cruz be?

  2. meisterlegion says on :

YES!! :D *geek-gasm* (I was hoping for this preview)

I loved, loved, loved, DIAL H FOR HERO in my younger days. It was fun to mail in your hero drawing/ideas and see if they were chosen as one of the heroes that Robby would become; the book was very interactive with the fans.

I was so happy to see that there would be a team-up of Robby and the new Batman. (actually, looks like Dick will be in a couple of issues…talk about flash-back to the old BRAVE AND THE BOLD, where Batman was always present). Robby has got a few years on him since I last saw him, looks like he’s growing up finally. I hope he doesn’t get killed as it elludes - that would be sad :(

meisterlegion: I too grew up in the 80’s loving Dial H for Hero and loved the choices of contenders who weld the HERO dial during it and it seems someone hire up at Action man (pr?) studios along with WB/Cartoon Network does too otherwise we’d never have gotten the more contemporary gen Y version of it on TV being Ben 10, heh.

Can’t wait to get this issue this week! :D

I dropped a few books from my pull list, and made some room for Brave and the Bold starting with #27.

Dark and New Avengers see ya, and lets see if JMS can keep me reading this book or not! Looking real good so far

Now that’s a preview! Like melfice I’ve cleared room for this book’s new creative team. The first pairing alone tells you this series is going to be golden. Can’t wait till my copy comes in the post!

  6. Gorbunov says on :

Jesus Saiz became really good. And interesting pairing, looks like JMS will make up for his Red Circle fail.

Oh, and by the way, where the hell are H-E-R-O trades? Somebody should to punch the main-man of trade department in the crotch and make him to stop the collecting of such a crap as War That Time Forgot, Dead Romeo etc and to collect something that deserves it.

Haven’t read this since Waid left. I’m gonna start again with this issue. I also like the $2.99 price point. The $3.99 is why I’m skipping the Shield.

  9. kennypick says on :

@melfice… I’m with you there! I actually dropped all my Marvel books in preparation for Blackest Night.

I was sorely disappointed with JMS’s work on the Red Circle books, but after reading this preview, I’ll pick up this issue. I’m not really impressed with the Joker’s dialogue but I’m intrigued.

I picked up this book this afternoon at my local comic shop and just finished reading it…

I think it was the best self-contained/single issue story I’ve read all year. A strong story, good art and just an overall nice ending - put a little bit of tear in my eye. I like my comics like this.

No spoilers on how it all turns out, but I will say that it would be cool to see more of Dial H For Hero in future BRAVE AND THE BOLD issues.

  11. talos1 says on :

I know EXACTLY what you mean for I too read mine yesterday! ;)

  12. kauffinbauchser says on :

    meisterlegion, and talos1: Me three!
