By Alex Segura

How far would you go for justice? That’s the question writer James Robinson and Mauro Cascioli continue to ask, as the heroes have found themselves turning to darker tactics in their search for retribution. Starman and Congorilla have captured the killers who took down some of their friends, but now what do they do with them? Meanwhile, Green Lantern and company wrestle with the idea of torturing villains for information in order to save lives. We’ve got a few of Mauro’s lovely painted pages right here to whet your appetite.

JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE #4 hits 10/7.

    ‘Darker tactics’? Torturing villains?

I weep at how comics how gone down the toilet….

  2. darthnat says on :

That upskirt shot on Miss Martian seems a little excessive.

I like this series - it’s not your normal “Rainbows & Unicorns” JLA story. I don’t like when it gets too dark though.

It is truly amazing how far DC has come - story-wise and art. It really has evolved over the years to a more ‘Mature Read’. It use to be that you had to find these stories over at Marvel - but, DC has really stepped up and grown/matured.

meisterlegion, respectfully, gratuitous upskirt shots of teenage girls and “heroes” torturing villians do not denote maturity. Quite the opposite. These are the types of things that very immature 11 year-olds find to be hallmarks of sophisticated storytelling.

Strangely, this same writer was the man responsible for one of the most truly mature, intelligent and sophisticated DC comics of all time, “Starman”. Mr. Robinson’s time in Hollywood has obviously removed those qualities from his writing, at least for this project.

Actually, you know, save for the panty shot, I really like that little bit with Miss Martian. She lays that dude out! I dig Mauro Cascioli’s (really liked it on Trials of Shazam!), but that seems unnecesary.

Beyond that, I picked up the first issue of this and decided it was “just alright.” Not the worst thing ever but not the greatest either. I hope that Robinson’s Justice League will be more to my liking.

  6. darthnat says on :

And really, this is not the first time DC has done a dark, proactive JLA story. The fairly recent Justice League Elite–a far superior and more mature book that Robinson has actually mentioned as an inspiration for some of his upcoming work–is a good example.

  7. nomoredidio says on :

Horrible. DC needs to stop giving Robinson work.

I’m digging this story but I agree that this is not one of Robinson’s best runs and was hoping he could up his game in the future issues. Keeping my figers crossed but still buying the issues.

Same, im enjoying Cry For Justice but IMO Robinson seems to out more effort into congratulating himself in the last couple of pages then he does into the actual story.

Do I sense a little chemistry between Freddie and Kara? That would be nice.(but I’d still rather she be with B5)

  11. meisterlegion says on :

Is Miss Martian really even human? Doesn’t she just take on the form of a teen girl; being a changling and all? Also, I’m not even sure she’s a male, I think she may share more male attributes, if she was a female-human, she would be a lesbian, seems to try to hit-on or buddy-up to Bombshell quite a lot. Bombshell kicked Miss Martian out of her bedroom in issue #75 (…and her cat).

Either case, I think the whole perspective of the “panty-shot” is being blown out of perportion. I believe it was meant to give size or show how big the villian was…it really doesn’t show anything. And, my mind is usually ALWAYS in the gutter - but, I didn’t even catch it on the first look through.

  12. meisterlegion says on :

ummm….are we only getting two teases for Oct 1st? :(

there wasn’t enough sneak previews to whet my appetite today :-P

  13. esteban138 says on :

    “…seems to try to hit-on or buddy-up to Bombshell quite a lot…”

If that’s your logic, than Hal & Ollie and Clark & Bruce and Booster & Ted are all gay couples.

    Outside of fanfiction, I mean.

  14. meisterlegion says on :

I have never seen Michael Jon Carter hit-on Ted (not that I would be against that idea…and there is an issue forth-coming where Ted comes back, so it will be interesting to see how this all plays out with Ted trying to kill Booster. The way these Black Lanterns tease and taungt their victims - he may even call Booster out on being more than just metro-sexual.

…Never seen Clark hit on Bruce. And for sure Hal and Ollie are all drawn with women interests.

Maybe I am reading into it too much though %)

  15. kauffinbauchser says on :

Boy, I think at the end of the day this is just gonna be a bad memory. This has been as unimpressive as “Battle for the Cowl”.

  16. nw316 says on :

That crotch shot on Jay Garrett seems a little excessive.

  17. meisterlegion says on :

    @nw316 - OMG! (LMAO)…I missed that too!

Jay does seem a little um…er - happy.
He always struck me as a right-side hanger, not a left-sider.

  18. meisterlegion says on :

    please…no Viagra jokes :-D
