If you’ve been reading BLACKEST NIGHT: TITANS (and there’s no reason to miss it, I say), then you know the once dearly-departed Terra plays a big role. So, it makes perfect sense to bring aboard writer/artist George Pérez to put pencil to paper for the cover to the mini’s final issue. Doubly cool? The artistic master plays homage to his own work, namely, the cover to NEW TEEN TITANS #30. But enough bluster. We caught up with BLACKEST NIGHT: TITANS editor Brian Cunningham to get more details on the cover, plus the cover itself (and its inspiration) below. Take it away, Brian:
“Who better to homage the cover to NEW TEEN TITANS (vol. 1) #30 than its original artist George Pérez? He even did a baby Black Lantern Wildebeest on the logo! And Hi-Fi Design knocked the coloring out of the park. You might see Pérez and Hi-Fi team up again on another Titans project in 2010. Stay tuned!”
BLACKEST NIGHT: TITANS #3 hits 10/28.

It’s always great to see George’s work these days. That issue of NTT was during an absolutely amazing run with great stories and fabulous art.
Sigh, the good ol’ days….
Sweet!
Nice. But what happened to the original cover with Dove?
Or is this the variant?

I’m guessing this is the variant. This cover is awesome.
@ madamerogue - Dove wasn’t on the cover of the 1980 - NEW TEEN TITANS #30. Brother Blood was on the 1984 - TEEN TITANS #30 cover (close-up face shot).
Maybe it was a variant, but I didn’t know they were doing those back then.
Oh - nevermind, I misunderstood the question.
I hope this is a $7 variant cover and not a $15 variant cover….because I WANT IT!
…that Blackest Night cover scared me so bad that a little bit of pee came out.
meisterlegion: Yes, I did mean the originally solicited cover for Blackest Night Titans 3.
I just looked at DC’s website, and it says the George Perez cover is the variant.
Love it!
OMG I can’t wait, what a great cover!
Totally awesome!!! I am calling my comics store and getting it put in my hold right now. This is like the Arthur Suydam comics covers for Marvel Zombies, but so much cooler.
My God! Isn’t that a great cover? It’s also cool to see a homage to a cover that hasn’t been done before but means so much to fans of the original series. As a fan of the Titans and Blackest Night I had a big wave of nostalgia and horror when looking at both those covers - and that’s exactly what Blackest Night should be button-pushing.
Now if only they’d do a Blackest Night Legion - just think of the source material!!
I’ll be getting both covers if thats the case
Love, love, love it!
