Last weekend, we broke the news that Dan DiDio and artist Philip Tan would be taking on the creative reins of THE OUTSIDERS. We even had a nice piece of Tan art. Well, now we’ve got the finished piece, which will be the cover to the team’s first issue, OUTSIDERS #26, hitting in January. So, why wait? Click away, friends.

Looks like Connor in a cape.
Intriguing. A member of the Superman family in the Outsiders. That’s different.
I haven’t read this title in awhile, but the cover is making me consider it again. I’m interested to know who that is. Conner? Maybe. But with all the Kryptonians running around now it might be someone else. Excellent art, Mr. Tan.
Looks like Kal-L but that can’t be for sure? Can it?
Its Geoforce and Steel… what other ‘S’ wearer 1.) Doesn’t have his/her own book. 2.) Would have a chrome dome that would cause that kind of lense flare?
if you look really closely at the handshake, the hand of the one with the cape looks silver to me. so i think it’s steel or someone new.
Maybe is the Eradicator? After The Return of Superman (The Death and Return…) the Eradicator, became part of a incarnation of the Outsider for a short time. After the Infinite Crisis, he is AWOL…
Steel, is my geuss.
I’m guessing Steel as well. They hinted as much at the DC Nation panel at Long Beach Comic Con (I was in the 3rd row!), and the hand looks a little metallic as well.
I love the Outsiders and have for years. Is it going to be the Superman and the Outsiders instead of Batman and the Outsiders because that would just be lame. Connor doesn’t make much sense other than the fact that some of the Outsiders past and/or present have been a Titan at one point. My guess is Steel? So I guess this isn’t Alfred’s rag tag team anymore? Will I be dropping this title? Probably not, I’ll give it a few issues.
Also, remember that Phillip Tan is supposed to be re-tooling some of the characters designs, so this may be a new look for Steel that they don’t want to reveal just yet.
oh and is it just me or does Geo-Force look strange? Not to bash Tan’s art because I am digging it (not as much as Quite Frankly’s) in Batman and Robin thus far. But there is something with Geo-Force’s face…maybe all that black and in such a small frame doesn’t do his art justice.
I had assumed Steel as well, but it does appear that he has hair, however it could just be a bad drawing. Light would reflect that much off a steel helmet, but not a head…
I think putting a Superman spin on Outsiders fails to make sense. Superman is the king of the insiders. Superman is “The Man.” The Outsiders, on the other hand, are not…
Oh well, maybe it’ll be good.

I believe its Eradicator! Eradicator was a Outsider before!
I definitely think it’s the Eradicator. The gloves make me think so, because Connor doesn’t wear gloves, and as far as I can remember, only the Eradicator does from the Superman family?
Except maybe power girl?
Okay, my curiosity is piqued…
The reflections in the picture don’t nescessarily mean that this is Steel… Note Geo-Force has a reflection on his head and wrist. Steel also hasn’t has a red “S” in some time… If ever.
A few observations:
1. The “S” shield is very different than the current Superman Family. Tan has drawn it the same on the characters chest and in the background.
2. The Super character appears to have hair.
3. The Super character’s face & neck look very suspect… He looks kind of gnarled from what I can see.
This could very well be Eradicator. I wouldn’t be surprised. Then again this could have a lot to do with the Blackest Night month off. Maybe this is an “I got better” version of BN Kal-L?
So many possibilities.
Don’t let us down Dan!!!
Steel does have hair? Therefore it’s not steel….who is it? Damn you DC…you have done it again!!! I will be buying this book. Hey Philip Tan has that great dark and gritty art that belongs to the “Outsiders” but having someone from the supes’ people is not quite an “outsider” I agree, it’s more of an insider but not the insiders from the first arc after Bruce’s time travel…..I mean death…I mean….
still hoping for Kal L. It would be cool. And the multiverse thing seems to be big these days so hopefully Lila will come back to life in the big resurrection if we get one too
Well, first off, the Eradicator was on the Outsiders for a while, and he is a Super-character.
Anyways, I like the cover. Not sure who the heck it is. Maybe it’s Bizarro fresh off his recent, uh, changes over in Strange Adventures.
It’s got to be the Eradicator. He’s part of the Superman family and he’s been on the Outsiders before.
It would be nice if it were The Eradicator.
or a long shot, how about Hank Henshaw, The Cyborg?
I know hes a bad guy but……..
Shoulda used the Alpha Centurion!
Unless Dan is temporary, this book is toast. I’m really hoping Dan’s not writing for long. Superboy didn’t last.
I was really liking this team. It didn’t get a real chance.
But Kreisberg’s Green Arrow & Black Canary did. Why is this the case? Andrew Kreisberg must be Dan’s buddy from TV.

This is just aggravating. Get a real writer, Dan, for both books!
p.s. The cover is about the same as Saturday’s announcement and it didn’t work the first time.
PASS
Strange. I have a hard time picturing Conner working as an Outsider, but why would anyone else where something that looks so much like his particular version of the “S” shield? Eradicator seems more likely than Steel, from what little we can see.
Heh, maybe Lor-Zod aged to the point where he doesn’t want full Nightwing duty so he’s helping out behind the scenes now. Or someone finally thought to use Luthor’s “one time only” Conner cure from Infinite Crisis to fix up Match.
If this is Conner, I’ll jump in on this book. The only other thing that might make me start in on The Outsiders is if Dick Grayson comes back to the team, as anyone other than Batman.
Yeah, I mixed up “where” and “wear” in my previous post. It’s late, I’m tired, and I had devoted all of my attention span to making sure I didn’t type “Connor” instead of “Conner” or “lame Superboy replacement” instead of “Lor-Zod.”
