Batman vs. Two-Face vs. — Batman?

By Alex Segura

Writer Judd Winick and artist Mark Bagley bring their “Long Shadows” arc to a close as Two-Face and the new Batman throw down in the Batcave. And it’s a vicious one, but as Two-Face begins to turn the tide…Batman shows up? Wish I could say more, but maybe these preview pages below will send some clues your way.

BATMAN #691 hits tomorrow.

I really wish DC would stop beating up on Grayson and let him be the competent hero he should be. I really hope these preview pages are not indicative of the rest of the book.

However, given Winick’s comments that this book is all about Dick Grayson screwing up and learning how to be Batman, I think it probably will be as bad as it looks

I think that Joker is Bruce’s ultimate foe/villian, and Two-Face is Dick’s ultimate foe/villian…he wouldn’t be if he was easy for Dick to defeat.

As much as I hate to see Dick get beat up by this guy - it only makes him stronger.

@lichu12: I think part of Two-Face, maybe the “good-side” admires Batman and all he stands for…but, he’s probably just doing it because he’s sick and demented.

Two-Face quote: “Die a hero. Or, live long enough to see yourself become the villian.”

When I saw the “I Am Batman” poster from the beginning of the year I assumed the “Two Face dressed as Batman” was just imagery … turns out it was a terrible Judd Winick arc to stay clear of.

@ braddock while I was appalled at what Winick did to the adult Titans I am quite impressed with this. that said he had crap artists on that title.

looks good, but dick needs to stop getting destroyed all the time. every once and awhile is alrite for every hero to go through a good beating … but come on DC! batman is stronger than this!

if batman can withstand scarecrows fear toxin and still be able to function on a lower level, why is two-face’s concoction flooring him like this?

i read the batman comics to see a strong individual (without powers) overcome impossible situations. i have no doubt in my mind that damian is going to swoop down and take care of business, but i hope this is not something that happens alot in the future.

Will Winick just get off this book! Oi vey… bad enough he sent Green Arrow into the ditch.

I am so SICK of seeing Dick getting his butt whupped. Ever since Devin Grayson turned Dick into a self-loathing, self-doubting whiner, he hasn’t been the same since.

Dick has gone up against nutjobs like Joker, assassins like Deathstroke, and even gods like Trigon and the Titans of Myth, but he gets shot in the back with darts by TWO-FACE?

Even Tim Drake got the best of Dick Grayson in a recent issue of Red Robin.

OH COME ON! Enough already. Turn Dick [back] into the confident bad ass that he once was. Remember the good ‘ol days when Dick stood his ground with Bruce? But now he’s a HAPPY BATMAN who likes to smile for photo-ops.

It’s getting to the point that if this comic book version of Nightwing were to appear in a movie, he could be played by Elijah Wood.

I have to agree with the “Dick is better than this” crowd, but to be honest, I still do not buy the basic idea that Dick Grayson ever needed to put on Bruce’s costume. It feels like we’re being asked to forget who the man is, and just go along with this for the sake of seeing a Robin who talks back to Batman. It isn’t worth it when that Robin is around, and even less so when he isn’t. Not interested in the pending “Justice League of Substitute Heroes,” either.

I’m still hoping that by mid-2010 we see the solicit for “Dick Grayson:Nightwing” or something. Some kind of hope for the character.

As for this arc, I hope to hear that it isn’t what it looked like it was supposed to be all along. I’m not optimistic.

wth? what means the last page of “Batman” #691? why Bruce was hiding that to Dick????
