The Doom Patrol comes face-to-face with the BLACKEST NIGHT

By Alex Segura

Few people have more skeletons in their proverbial closets than Niles Caulder, founder of the Doom Patrol. And with BLACKEST NIGHT doing a bang-up job of bringing those skeletons back in the form of Black Lanterns, you can only imagine how complicated things are going to get for the Doom Patrol. Caulder’s been playing god for years, and the time for a reckoning is at hand. Check out a few pages from this BLACKEST NIGHT tie-in issue below, from writer Keith Giffen and artist Justiniano, with a few pages from the METAL MEN co-feature, by Giffen, writer J.M. DeMatteis and artist Kevin Maguire.

DOOM PATROL #4 hits 11/4.

Nice! I’ve been waiting for some Doom Patrol with Justiniano previews ever since I saw the cover! Everything that man touches turns to gold!

BTW… Anyone not reading Doom Patrol is really missing out! Giffen’s writing has never been better.

This series and R.E.B.E.L.S. are two of the best *underrated* titles DC is currently publishing, hands down.

I hope the Blackest Night tie-ins get more folks to pay attention to this great book!

It’s the best Giffen book since Legion of Super-Heroes.

I can’t get myself to like this incarnation of Doom Patrol. I tried to like it. I mean TRIED to force myself to like it.

@theray - I agree, R.E.B.E.L.S. is an awesome and very underrated title. It is brilliant.

I stopped reading Doom Patrol after the first 2 issues along with Magog.

I am a DCU fan through and through. Someone please tell me what I am missing?

No offense to Mr Giffen…AND everyone certainly has their own opinons, but I think the Giffen-era on Legion of Super-Heroes destroyed one of my favorite books. I’m so glad that the “Five Years Later” story-line and “Batch SW-6″…destroying the Earth, etc. has all been explained with the LEGION OF THREE WORLDS.

THANK GOD for Geoff Johns and bringing things back where they should be.

…I’ll wait for the trades on DOOM PATROL. Honestly, there have been more incarnations of the Doom Patrol than the Legion - I don’t think one more is going to hurt.

3 issue already out and basicly it wasn’t like what i imagined would be. i meant i still enjoy recent DP story but its more like mercenary super squat story then the “most weird” superhero story…

with whis BN event and BL thing, i’m hoping the story will going to somekind of horror and twisted storyline… and affect each team mamber for good.

I’m not sure what it is about Doom Patrol. I’ve never really liked the group all that much, but this is probably my favorite monthly from DC. (Mark Waid’s Irredeemable being #1 overall)

Well, I’m definitely dropping this when BN tie-ins are over. This book has been nothing but “CHIEF IS EVIL!!! EVERYONE IS MESSED UP IN THE HEAD!!” and the team hasn’t really done anything productive.

Can’t say I like the Metal Men feature either wish it were more like Dan Didio’s Metal Men in Wednesday Comics.

Wait a second… when did Valentina Vostock die? Last time I’ve seen her was in Checkmate as White Queen, taking over for Amanda Waller… alive!
What did I miss? Or was that an error?
