The weekend’s no longer a distant mirage. It’s right around the corner. So why not spend some time with not only Etrigan the Demon, but Aquaman? Oh, and this beautifully-drawn cover is from THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #32, which hits in February from J. Michael Straczynski and artist Jesus Saiz.

Cool. Great team-up and a gorgeous cover! I hope this is as good as the latest JMS B&B books!

YES!! JMS gets what the DCU is supposed to be about, a utilization of classic characters and the mining of their rich mythologies. Aquaman is a pillar of the DCU, but he’s languished for years in obscurity.
I just wish JMS could be working his magic out in realm of DCU continuity.
Approximately 26,000 readers picked up his first issue of Bold and the Brave. I hope more support his work, as it is truly representative of classic DCU storytelling.

Although the old Brave and the Bold Team ups with Batman in every issue were usually pretty good, I always had a soft spot for the different team-ups that they had prior to Batman taking over. Bob Haney never really cared much about continuity if it stood in the way of a good story. Maybe that’s the way it should be. Look at the new First Wave stuff they’re doing. This is great stuff and looks like it’s going to be a great read. Who cares if Batman, Black Canary, etc are changed a little or moved to a different continuity? A good story trumps everything else. Embrace it or ignore it, it’s your choice.

I love that artwork and I love the pairings that have cropped up in the first few issues of this book. I just wish someone other than JMS was writing it. He can be a good writer for a certain kind of story, but this title, by its very nature, needs a writer that is able to bring the fun.

JMS’s writing is many things, but fun is not one of them (look to his Fantastic Four run for further proof). His work on this book so far has been heavy-handed, pretentious and overly serious. How do you make Batman/Dial H For Hero and Flash/Blackhawks team-ups not fun? That’s takes effort.

Hopefully JMS is just finding his footing and future issues are more fun, because I really want to like this book. Maybe he needs a co-writer who can supplement his strong plotting and characterization with a sense of adventure and free-wheeling wackiness?

    SWEET!!!

Very cool to see the Sea King and working with the Demon is even better.

OH! how I miss Aquaman - this one. Not the one with the hand chopped-off, or the one with the long beard, or the one that is in Blackest Night.

…I really miss this one. Beautiful cover by the way.

  9. ryaztek says on :

The cover art is GORGEOUS and hopefully we will be seeing a JMS series starring AQUAMAN and MERA post- Blackest Night.

  10. braddock says on :

JMS’ pairings are so awesome. I expect epic Etrigan sea chanteys.

  11. Kooster says on :

Wow, a non-Black Lantern Aquaman! Thank you JMS for writing an Aquaman story!

This helps to fill-in my Aquaman queue, until he returns full time to the DCU!

  12. ClaytonKinnelon says on :

I can’t believe I forgot to mention this in the earlier post, but Mera (of Aquaman lore) has been such a knockout of a character in Blackest Night. She is a revelation, a true queen, both in Atlantis and on land.

  13. supreme says on :

I am so glad other people are enjoying this book as much as I am! I am in total agreement that continuity should be tossed out the window for a great story to be told. JMS has been 2 for 2 so far, I hope the streak continues.

  14. Black Manta says on :

    I’m getting this DAY ONE!

  15. majesticfool says on :

FINALLY!!! YESS!!! The King of the Seas getting some attention! Maybe, JUST maybe the demand for this single issue will give Dan Didio the epiphany he needs to give Aquaman (some respect and…) his own title or even a co-feature!

Thank you JMS - YOU ROCK!!!

  16. nickmarino says on :

  17. pham says on :
