In addition to the special, 50th issue wonderful-ness coming your way next month from the stellar creative team of writer Sterling Gates and artist Jamal Igle, SUPERGIRL #50 features a story by none other than Helen Slater, who as some of you can recall, played Supergirl in the major motion picture by the same name. In tandem with co-writer Jake Black and the very talented Cliff Chiang, Slater will tell a story about a “Meet the Press”-type show where a panel discusses Supergirl’s merits (or, according to Cat Grant, her lack thereof).
We checked in with SUPERGIRL assistant editor Wil Moss for the lowdown on the story, and not only did he share some info, but he passed along two lovely pages by Mr. Chiang. Take it away, Wil:
“We’re thrilled to have Helen Slater – Supergirl herself! – contribute a story to this special anniversary issue of SUPERGIRL. She and her co-writer, the wickedly talented Jake Black, have crafted a short story that really encapsulates everything that’s good and true about the Girl of Steel. The fact that we were able to get the A-list art team of Cliff Chiang and Dave McCaig to provide the art and colors just seals the deal – this is one story you do not want to let fly by!”
SUPERGIRL #50 hits 2/17.

DC Comics and Milestone Media entered into an unprecedented creative partnership 16 years ago this month by producing 14 interlocking, creator-owned titles including HARDWARE, ICON, and STATIC SHOCK. Now, Milestone is back, its continuity mysteriously merged with the DCU.
While we saw the DC side of the story in JUSTICE LEAGUE: WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE, the 2-issue MILESTONE FOREVER gathers the original artists from Milestone’s launch titles – including John Paul Leon, Mark Bright, Chris Cross and Milestone founder Denys Cowan – to complete the tales told in the original runs of STATIC SHOCK, ICON, HARDWARE, SHADOW CABINET and BLOOD SYNDICATE. McDuffie reveals the final fate of each of Milestone’s launch characters in a bittersweet tale that chronicles the literal end of a universe and the birth of something new…with major consequences for the future of the DC Universe.
MILESTONE FOREVER #1 hits 2/3.

It’s almost here — an Earth very much like our own, but featuring a collection of pulp and noir heroes that include the Batman, the Spirit, Doc Savage, Black Canary and many more.
In the shadows of the War, the roots of the Golden Tree cabal grew deep into the heart of a fallen world and the leaders at the heart of this secret organization see no place in their utopia for heroism. Doc Savage, struggling with the loss of his father, has been blind to their advance – until now. Central City’s mysterious Spirit has caught wind of their plans as well. But whose side have the Blackhawks chosen? What is the Red Right Hand? And where is the Batman? Eisner Award winner Brian Azzarello (100 BULLETS, JOKER) and superstar Rags Morales (IDENTITY CRISIS) craft a DC universe like you’ve never seen before. It’s a world with no supermen, only mortal men. Death can come at any moment, and adventure can still be found at every corner of the map.
Dive right in with a look at some black and white interiors from the first issue. And, as an added bonus, we’re including the Morales sketch pages some of you saw in the back of select DCU books and the handful we initially spotlighted here. Enjoy:

Hey DC Nation!
You know by now I love me my Red Circle books, characters and creators alike. We’ve got top-notch talent producing top-notch work on every issue, and everyone is deserving of the highest of praises. One of our unsung heroes is cover artist Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, a rising star here at DC Comics, whose amazing work has graced titles such as FINAL CRISIS AFTERMATH: DANCE and THE GREAT TEN, and who makes THE WEB one of the most striking books on the shelves, month after month.
The Web’s an interesting hero — cocky, arrogant, loaded with money, looks and charm, yet he’s also a compassionate man who truly wants to do good and help people. But intentions and actions can be very different things, and so far, the Web has found his worst enemy is himself, as he keeps tripping himself up thanks to his absolute hubris. Drawing a character like that requires an unbelievable level of skill and nuance, and Stanley nails it every time. I get a loose sketch one day:
…and then a stunning, fully-painted, ready-to-print cover the very next day later.
ONE DAY, people. ONE DAY. I’m actually convinced Stanley’s cloned himself many times over to keep up with all his art commitments as well as his fulltime job. And you all see it, don’t you? The supreme self-confidence the Web has, the cavalier attitude he brings into his superheroic feats, his money and his contemporary edge, all captured perfectly by these covers. So here’s a little gallery of some of my favorites so far. Hope you all enjoy!
Thanks, Stanley!
Oh, and Stanley just shot these sketch over. Huh.
Now what the heck is this for? I guess I’ll find out tomorrow!

So, new comic book day is almost over. Did you get a chance to swing by the shop? If not, you really should. It’s a busy week for the DCU, with a ton of books shipping, and lots of stuff happening in said book. One title featuring some major shakeups is BATMAN AND ROBIN #7, which kicks off an arc that teams artist Cameron Stewart with regular writer Grant Morrison.
We showed off the first page of the issue on Monday along with a preview yesterday, but those of you that have the issue in hand know that there was one page in particular that stood out. For more, click below. Spoiler alert, and all that, if you haven’t made it to the shop yet.
