You didn’t think we’d come into 2010 quietly, did you?
Of course not. Take a few deep breaths. We know the headline’s a doozy. But it’s also true: Mega-popular artist David Finch, who’s made a name for himself working on every title under the sun for Marvel will be calling the DCU his home base for the foreseeable future — and we couldn’t be happier.
Where can you expect to see Finch’s hyperkinetic pencils and expressive linework? Well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves, shall we? Take a moment to bask in the glow of the news. Done? OK. We managed to get a few minutes of David’s time to discuss his decision to come to DC. So take it away, Dave:
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the DC family! It feels too good to be true that I’m going to have the chance to draw some of the most dynamic, iconic, and fun characters in the business. I’ve been a DC comics fan for a very long time, so it’s a very big honor to finally have a part in their creation.”

David Finch on Aquaman #1… make it happen
Great way to start the year, DC!
How about Ed Brubaker and Jeph Loeb, too?
Batman is never gonna look better
Jeph Loeb WAS great, but after Ultimatum… they can keep him… At the very least, I don’t want him around characters I care about…
…lest they get eaten by the blob… (oops, spoiler alert)
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: No matter how good the story is, if the art is weak, I’ll pass it on by on the shelf. David’s work is strong and looks fantasic. He draws women and men both really well - his Captain America is so detailed. I’m stoked that we snatched him up exclusively. “Hyperkinetic” is perfect word for his amazing drawings.
And for an earlir version of this story see BleedingCool.com
Sweet!!! He’s gotta draw Batman, he was born to draw Batman.
I didn’t see this one coming! Finch is a very big fish. A powerhouse artist. Bravo DC! I hope he doesn’t get the same inker Mark Bagley has, though…
I second the vote for Finch on Aquaman and Mera…I imagine his underwater art would be amazing!

Don’t we still need an artist to work with Levitz on Adventure Comics? Levitz and Finch would be a superstar creative team.
AWESOME NEWS! Just please don’t place him on a long-term video game project like that other great guy. What was his name?
Awesome News! Thanx!
I hope he does Batman
Fanflippintastic!
Love to see him on a team book…or Superman for sure!

This is fantastic news for DC!
Another reason to Make Mine DC! =P
Well, I suppose I’m just a Negative Nancy here, but I think that Finch’s work is way over-rendered and that he has a lot of issues distinguishing characters with facial expressions. As a fan of both companies, I think that Finch’s work suits the darker corners of the Marvel U. better than it suits the DCU. I guess he’ll definitely find a home in the Bat books, but I was so disgusted by his work on Ultimatum (where Loeb deserves most of the blame, but definitely not all) that this announcement does nothing for me.
Uhm, well, in the sense of being fair, his painted work is extremely beautiful. I hope DC can peg him for a few painted covers before moving him to interiors. That was positive, right?
It would be great to see him do an arc on Batman and Robin. And then he should definitely do a Lobo story!
Aaaawesome!!!! Finch seems to only be getting better, so I highly anticipate his DC work! As for bringing in Brubaker and Loeb… are we thinking about the same Jeph Loeb? His Superman/Batman stuff was aamazing, but most of his Marvel stuff has been yeesh. No thanks! I’ll take Finch! Just give him a writer that really cares about the characters and stories!! (Geoff Johns?? A-Qua-Man???)

NO AQUAMAN, NO AQUAMAN, NO AQUAMAN.
I HOPE YOU ALL CALL ME OUT ON THIS, BUT STOP IT WITH THE AQUAMAN. STOP ASKING DIDIO IN EVERY 20 (NOW 10) QUESTIONS ON NEWSARAMA, STOP SAYING JOHNS NEEDS TO DO AN AQUAMAN REBIRTH.
LEAVE THE MER…MAN, IN THE DEAD FOR ALL I CARE.
I LOVE EVERY CHARACTER DC PUTS OUT AND I HAVE A 90% CONSUMPTION OF DC PRODUCT, BUT ALL THE WHINING ABOUT THIS GUY NOW MAKES ME SO….UGH!
JUST DROP IT ALREADY.
I VENTED.
FINCH IS THE MAN AND IF YOU DON’T THINK SO, YOUR LOSS. LOEB SUCKS ON HIS ULTIMATUM OR WHOLE ULTIMATE STORYLINE. SAME WITH THE HULK…RED? yawn……
now you may call me out and yell blasphemy fanbots…
