bd-atom-1 The response to the news from earlier this month, that writer Jeff Lemire (SWEET TOOTH) and artist Mahmud Asrar would be not only handling the BRIGHTEST DAY: ATOM SPECIAL but continuing Ray Palmer's adventures as a co-feature in, well, ADVENTURE COMICS, was resoundingly positive. So, why not talk to Lemire himself about what's got him jazzed about the project? Take it away, Jeff: "I'm the biggest DC Comics fan I know...well that is until I met Geoff Johns. Geoff and I both grew up on the same generation of DC Comics, and it's a total thrill to be working with him and the rest of the Brightest Day crew to return Ray Palmer/The Atom to the spotlight. I love the Atom. I loved The Gardner Fox/Gil Kane Silver Age stories, I loved The Jan Strand "Sword of Atom" books and I loved what Geoff did with him in Blackest Night. But most of all I love the character himself. Ray Palmer is as much a scientist as he is a superhero, and I really want to explore this duality and how these two sides of his life are inherently linked in everything he does. The amazing Mahmud Asrar and I are also going to try and showcase some great new applications of Ray's powers. I've come up with a new fighting style for The Atom that I've nicknamed, "Shrinko-Jitsu"...can't wait for you to see it! Ray's been through a lot over the years, and after Blackest Night I really want to have him leave all that baggage behind and rise up again as one of DC Comics' premier super heroes!"
