We’re sure you were running a myriad number of possibilities through your head when we debuted the image yesterday, and it’s time to get to the bottom of where the image – and a few others – are from.

If you’re a fan of the show FRINGE on FOX, you know that part two of the show’s season finale airs tonight. And, as if you needed more reason to tune in (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, we’ve got a few.

See, in tonight’s episode both universes are put at great risk as Walter (John Noble) and Olivia (Anna Tory) visit the “other side.” But what are some of the cool Easter egg-style things one would see on the “other side”? Well, stuff like that RED LANTERN/RED ARROW cover, for starters.

So tune in tonight, look out for more covers like the one above and come back to The Source tomorrow morning for a look at all the covers shown in the episode.

Another mind-blowing 75th anniversary variant

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

By Alex Segura

Yesterday, we unveiled a look at Mike Mingola’s take on the classic DETECTIVE COMICS #168 cover. How can we top that?

Well, we can’t. But we can give you an equally-amazing image to kick off your day.

Most fans, young and old, are familiar with comic book legend Neal Adams’ iconic SUPERMAN #233 image – “KRYPTONITE NEVERMORE!” It’s one of those things that is part of the comic book lexicon, and it’s symbolic of the Man of Steel and everything he stands for. Here it is:

Now, imagine it reinterpreted by Eduardo Risso, the acclaimed artist of Vertigo’s 100 BULLETS and WEDNESDAY COMICS’ “Batman” strip:

This cover will serve as the 75th anniversary variant for the historic SUPERMAN #700. But we’re not done, gang. Come back tomorrow for another lovely 75th anniversary variant.

By Alex Segura

Got some news for you, gang. Ready?

DC Comics has joined forces with TASCHEN, the book publisher known for its eye for quality, modern design aesthetic and high-end art books spotlighting every aspect of culture: from art and movies to lifestyle and comics, to produce an ultra-comprehensive, extra large book so impressive, even super heroes may have trouble lifting it.

Clocking in at nearly 15 pounds and with over 650 pages (all details are still to be confirmed), 75 Years of DC Comics: The Art of Modern Mythmaking features more than 1,500 images — including covers, interiors, original illustrations, photos, film stills and collectibles — using the latest digital reproduction technology to bring you the characters, stories and the creators that brought them to life as they’ve never been seen before.

And the man behind the story, telling the tales? None other than Paul Levitz, former DC Comics Publisher and upcoming LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES and ADVENTURE COMICS writer. Paul’s in-depth essays trace the history of DC Comics, from its pulpy beginnings to the modern era.

The book also features massive fold-out timelines and an in-depth appendix that includes bios on artists, writers, editors, publishers and actors — what more do you need to know before this gets an automatic spot on your wish list? I was sold before I even started writing this here blog post.

Stay tuned to The Source for more details.
