This January, fans will get a Batman tale like no other, by two of the most masterful creators to ever take on the Dark Knight.
BATMAN: EUROPA, a four-issue mini-series written to gritty perfection by FIRST WAVE’s Brian Azzarello and Matteo Casali with an all-star cast of artists, including Giuseppe Camuncoli (who is handling layouts for the entire series!), Diego Latorre and Jock. With a first issue painted over Cammo’s layouts by none other than superstar artist and DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee, who as you know, is no stranger to Batman. And if it involves Jim, you can guarantee it’s a major Batman tale.
In the pages of BATMAN: EUROPA, the impossible has happened – the Batman is on the brink of defeat, at the hands of a virus with no cure. Surely there’s someone that can help him? Well, there is – the Joker. Who infected Batman with the virus? What does the Joker have to do to save him? And how can it all happen before the Dark Knight collapses? Together, the unlikely teammates and arch-foes travel through Europe cobbling together clues while the clock ticks down.
We’ve got a look at the first cover from the series, by Jim Lee, and boy, it’s a beauty.

Finally, the “lost” Bernie Wrightson Batman story has arrived. Written by veteran Ron Marz with inks by the masterful Kevin Nowlan, the story pits the Dark Knight against Solomon Grundy and features full-page illustrations throughout the issue.
But that’s not all. BATMAN: HIDDEN TREASURES also features a newly-colored Wrightson and Len Wein classic, “Night of the Bat,” which originally appeared in SWAMP THING #7. Both stories feature colors by acclaimed artist Alex Sinclair.
BATMAN: HIDDEN TREASURES hits today.

I know what scares me. But that’s not relevant. What is? How about what scares the master of horror, Stephen King? Monsters? Long lines in the grocery store? Vampires?
Over at our sister blog, GRAPHIC CONTENT, you’ll find a video clip of King discussing just that, during his panel at The New Yorker Literary Festival this past weekend. Swing by and take a look, won’t you?

We swung by SUPERGIRL Assistant Editor Wil Moss’ office last week and got a chance to get a sneak peek at his usually impressive wall of covers, but also at a bit of news. Looks like the hyper-talented Bernard Chang will be returning to the Superman books with a guest spot on SUPERGIRL #57, pairing him with regular writer Sterling Gates. We’ve got a first look at some of the finished pages (which are lovely, but click below to find out for yourselves), but before we show ‘em off, let’s touch base with Wil to get a sense of why his issue merits some special attention.
“SUPERGIRL #57 is the conclusion of the ‘BizarroGirl’ arc, and Bernard Chang took over art duties for an issue to end things in high style! (And to give Jamal Igle & Jon Sibal a well-deserved break!) Writer Sterling Gates threw everything he could at Bernard to try to trip him up – Bizarro versions of practically the entire DCU, a planet-destroying monster with tons of smaller symbiotic monsters, an army of Bizarro Kryptonians, even a vulnerable Cat Grant! – but nothing could stop him. See for yourself!”

They say you you can’t go back, the past is the past. It isn’t always true. When Azzarello and I found out we had the opportunity to add some additional material to our Lex Luthor story, it was like someone gave us the keys to the DeLorean. Although I think we can both look back at Luthor with some pride, there’s also a bit of unfinished business there. That is, until now.

October sees the release of the NEW AND IMPROVED Luthor. A new hardcover collection of the original mini-series with all new story pages (half an issue’s worth) and bonus sketchbook material. Also, when I say new story material, I really mean it. We’ve actually added new sequences throughout the book as well as adding pieces to existing scenes and re-shuffling the position of others.
This ‘new cut’ really enhances the original story and broadens it. For example, here are a couple pages we added to issue three, sans coloring and lettering.

In the original version, the fight between Superman and Batman was cut off towards the end. These two new pages continue the last page of the fight and allow readers to really find out what Superman was after.
What you see here is just the beginning. Wrapped in a new cover, this book is our time machine. Jump in with us.
