A final post to leave you in the holiday Spirit (pun intended)

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

I’d run Mike Ploog artwork on here every day if it were up to me, but the holidays gave me the perfect excuse to post this piece. (This particular splash is from his backup story with Paul Dini in The Spirit #9.)

The DC Comics offices are closed from the 24th through the 31st while we all take a much-needed break, and the Source will be temporarily shutting down for that week. Have no fear, however: The Source will be back in January and we’ve got a ton of cool stuff planned for you. So, until then, folks…

Happy new year!

Lex Luthor makes Scandal Savage an offer she can’t refuse

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

By Austin Trunick

Why are the Secret Six helping Lex Luthor? Lex doesn’t want to take Vandal
Savage on by himself, so he hires Scandal and her teammates to lend him a
hand against the immortal villain.

But why would they agree to help him? What does Lex Luthor offer that would
convince the Secret Six to help out the most notorious man in Metropolis?

ACTION COMICS #896 is the first of a two-part crossover with Secret Six #29,
and hits stores on Wednesday.

Green Arrow #7 cover

Green Arrow’s haunted by a horrible childhood memory in this preview to GREEN ARROW #7 — and who wouldn’t be, given the circumstances? Lucky for him he was trained on that bow by such an early age.

I have to mention that cover by Mauro Cascioli: that’s one of the best pieces of fantasy comic art I’ve seen this side of Charles Vess. Do you agree?

GREEN ARROW #7 is on sale next Wednesday.

SOME MIDWEEK VARIANTS

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

By Austin Trunick

Here are a few variant (and a couple standard) covers to help you through your week. First up, a stunning variant of GREEN ARROW #8 by David Mack. Next, two JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST #18 covers, the iconic version by Aaron Lopresti and the variant by Kevin Maguire. Rounding it out are two covers to WONDER WOMAN #606. Don Kramer’s is also part of our iconic cover run, and Alex Garner’s variant is my personal favorite of the bunch. Look at it, just… wow.

Do you have a favorite, SOURCE readers?

Celebrate an Orange Christmas with Larfleeze

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

By David Hyde

Larfleeze has been dreaming of Christmas ever since he arrived on Earth. Will he get everything he wants? Well, let’s just say he’s got a really, really long list and it’s questionable, at best, whether or not he’s been good this year….

This Special has it all, including a recipe for Larfleeze’s Orange Lantern Cookies, a Larfleeze maze and an awesome two page story by Art Baltazar and Franco of TINY TITANS’ fame.

Still not convinced you need to run to your local comic book store, buy a copy, clutch it to your heart and shout “mine?” Then, we’ve got a look at five pages from the Special.

Don’t be a Scrooge, people!

Happy Holidays.

Better Living Through Time Travel

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

By David Hyde

As December winds down and folks make resolutions for the New Year, it’s not uncommon to daydream about how things might have worked out differently. What decisions do you regret? What would you make differently, if you had a chance to change your life?

FLASH 8, on sale next Wednesday, takes those questions one bold step further. What would you do if you could actually go back in time? Would you be a better person? Would you work on your relationship with your family? Would you tell the woman you love how you really feel?

Eobard Thawne gets his chance in Reverse Flash: Rebirth.

Mike Carlin on returning to an iconic Death of Superman image

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

By Austin Trunick

Do the above two images look similar? The first is the iconic spread by Jon Bogdanove and Dennis Janke from the classic Death of Superman storyline, the second is by Dan Jurgens and Jerry Ordway for next week’s DCU Legacies #8.

A few words from the book’s editor, Mike Carlin, who also edited the original Death of Superman story:

“Not only was it cool to revisit such an important moment in Superman’s (and my) career… But it was enhanced by having ‘Death of Superman’ veterans Dan Jurgens & Jerry Ordway do their version of Bogdanove & Janke’s iconic image. Apparently death IS forever!! I, for one, look forward to doing this again in another 18 years!”

DCU Legacies #8 is in stores tomorrow.
