“In a year when I got attacked for COP OUT and thrown off a plane (now TWICE, kinda), this WIDENING GYRE hardcover makes it ALL better. This is my favorite comic book story I’ve ever written, and we were lucky to get a true celebrity artist on pencils: Walt Flanagan, co-host of TELL ‘EM, STEVE-DAVE – which was just named by iTunes as one of the 25 Best Podcasts of 2010. If THAT doesn’t bring the ladies back to comics, NOTHING will.”

How do I know that it’s almost 5 o’clock on Friday? The big tip off is that fellow SOURCE blogger and all around good guy Austin Trunick already has his NFL game day face on. On Friday. For Sunday’s games. Let’s just say, Mr. Trunick takes his football very seriously.
So we’re gonna have to wrap things up here this week on THE SOURCE before Austin actually puts on shoulder pads or something.
Let’s end our Friday with three blind items…
* Which superhero team is losing their headquarters?
* What classic cult favorite DC horror series is getting the DC Comics Presents treatment next year
* Who is pulling the strings of the Legion of Super-Villains?
…And a look at this stunning cover to BATMAN INCORPORATED issue 5. Amazing.
See you all next week.

Let’s get this out of the way first, David Finch might be the nicest guy in comics. He’s also a Batman fanatic and his love for the character is evident on every page of the upcoming BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT series. Luckily, you don’t have to take my word for it. Just check out his variant cover to issue 4.

It’s the holiday season, and a dangerous new foe has it in for Cat Grant — and as much as Supergirl would like to see Cat get what’s coming to her, The Girl of Steel has no choice but to put aside her holiday blues and get involved!
Sterling Gates and Jamal Igle have given us an issue of Supergirl that’s got it all: Arkham Asylum. Superwoman. A cameo by the Justice League of America – along with a couple of twists and turns you won’t see coming.

And it’s a beauty. Next year’s Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo — C2E2 for short — just got a bit greener. GREEN LANTERN, specifically.
Superstar artist Ivan Reis, who’s no stranger to the adventures of Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps, has put together a lovely piece of artwork to promote the event, with inks by Joe Prado and colors by Rod Reis. The poster, which will be on display soon at comic shops, libraries and other locales around Chicago is as eye-catching and powerful as you can imagine. Check out the poster below, and swing by the C2E2 official site for more details about the show and the poster.

Superman’s departure from Metropolis to walk across the country has led to a slow news cycle for the city’s biggest paper. If a lack of Superman front-page headlines weren’t bad enough for the paper, a muckraking news blog has accused the Planet of bribing Superman for their stories — putting even their journalistic integrity on the line!
With all of the paper’s best reporters on other duties, Perry White must recruit the help of a junior photographer to go undercover and save the Planet’s reputation.
SUPERMAN #706 is by G. Willow Wilson and artist Amilcar Pinna and hits stands next Wednesday.

Next year’s “Reign of Doomsday” storyline is still shrouded in mystery. We’ve done a couple teases here on The Source, and here’s another: this great splash by Ed Benes from STEEL #1!

Excited? Me too.
In STEEL #1 — which kicks off “Reign of Doomsday” – Doomsday has returned to Metropolis, and Steel is the only hero who can keep him from destroying the city. But how can Steel, a normal human, possibly hope to stop the monster who killed Superman?
Find out when the issue hits store in January!
