Over the past week we’ve heard from fans about a need for more women writers, artists and characters. We want you to know, first and foremost, that we hear you and take your concerns very seriously.
We’ve been very fortunate in recent years to have fan favorite creators like Gail Simone, Amy Reeder, Felicia Henderson, Fiona Staples, Amanda Connor, G. Willow Wilson and Nicola Scott write and draw the adventures of the World’s Greatest Super Heroes.
DC Comics is the home of a pantheon of remarkable, iconic women characters like Wonder Woman, Lois Lane, Batgirl, Batwoman, Catwoman and Supergirl as well as fan favorite characters like Black Canary, Katana, Mera and Starfire. We’re committed to telling diverse stories with a diverse point of view. We want these adventures to resonate in the real world, reflecting the experiences of our diverse readership. Can we improve on that? We always can—and aim to.
We’ll have exciting news about new projects with women creators in the coming months and will be making those announcements closer to publication. Many of the above creators will be working on new projects, as we continue to tell the ongoing adventures of our characters. We know there are dozens of other women creators and we welcome the opportunity to work with them.
Our recent announcements have generated much attention and discussion and we welcome that dialogue.

This fall, a new era begins for Oliver Queen. We caught up with GREEN ARROW penciller Dan Jurgens about working on the series’ art with industry legend George Perez.
“Once upon a time, I was asked to draw an issue of Teen Titans because the book’s usual artist, George Perez, needed a break,” Dan told us. “Marv Wolfman was the writer, and one of the things his script asked for was a double page spread with so much detail that it would ‘make George Perez jealous’.
Ri-i-i-ght. As if I, or anyone else, could have done so. When it comes to detail, or, more importantly, attention to detail, George is unequaled. Some people view that as an element of his personal style, which is true. But, more importantly, that stylistic detail exemplifies the fact that he cares tremendously about the quality of his work. George’s commitment to the page, be it as writer, penciller or inker, is second to none.
That’s why J.T. Krul and I are so thrilled to have George inking GREEN ARROW. In the first issue, I drew a spread with a cobblestone street, simply because I knew George could make it sing. Now, that might not sound like much in and of itself, but in terms of making a page work with a sense of something extra, that’s a fastball down the middle of the plate for George. He’ll put it in the seats every time.
George’s legendary status in this business is well earned. It’s a pleasure to work with him again and a total and complete thrill to watch him elevate the art on GREEN ARROW into something special.”
GREEN ARROW #1, written by J.T. Krul and featuring art by Dan Jurgens and George Perez, goes on sale September 7th.

The talented writer/artist Jill Thompson (Deliruim’s Party: A Little Endless Story Book, Sandman) took to the stage in the DC Entertainment Booth on the last day of the San Diego Comic-Convention and awed the crowd with her rendition of Wonder Woman.
In a step by step process the crowd intensely watched as Jill transformed a blank piece of paper into the gorgeous image below, which she graciously signed and gave to a fan that had the closest birth date to hers.
Some of the other veteran artists who showed their craft throughout the weekend were: Mark Buckingham (FABLES), Francis Manapul (FLASH), and Cully Hamner (RED, BLUE BEETLE), and Jim Lee (JUSTICE LEAGUE).

This September, DC Comics takes a trip back to the Medieval Ages with DEMON KNIGHTS. Featuring demons, witches, sorcery and plenty of dark magic, DEMON KNIGHTS plants the seeds for the siege that will reverberate through the present-day DC Universe.
One of the many exciting things about DC Comics-The New 52 is the opportunity for new characters to be introduced. In DEMON KNIGHTS, one such character is The Horsewoman. But who is this mysterious new woman and what will her role in the series be?
“The Horsewoman is one of the seven Demon Knights, flung together by a desperate battle,” said series writer Paul Cornell. “She’s a mysterious rider who tries to stay apart, on a lonely journey across Medieval Europe. She can ride, but she can’t walk, supported in her saddle by magic and invention. She has an absolute affinity for all horses, and she’s the greatest archer in history. She tries hard not to care, but always ends up helping those who need her. And the little village Etrigan’s reluctant team end up defending from enormous odds is going to need her now.”
DEMON KNIGHTS #1, by Paul Cornell, Diogenes Neves and Oclair Albert, rides into stores on September 14th.
