BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT ongoing series writer Paul Jenkins joins STORMWATCH for a two-part adventure beginning with issue #7.
When a scientific experiment tears a hole in the barrier between dimensions, miners from a forbidden universe arrive to steal Earth’s gravity! Can Stormwatch—with their ranks depleted after recent cataclysmic events—find a way to repel alien excavators that shred our reality with every touch?
“The Stormwatch crew can’t ever catch a break — no simple threats like bloodthirsty monsters or world-dominating supervillains to stop, it’s always some mind-cracking knot that Apollo, Midnighter and the rest of the crew have to untie,” says editor Pat McCallum. “This time out, Stormwatch have to solve the puzzle of dimension-stepping gravity miners, creatures so alien they’re not even technically alive. The last stand of humanity or, as Stormwatch calls it, ‘Monday.’”
Pick up part one in March 2012.

The holidays come but once a year – but they do come every year and, let’s face it, some of those same old winter wonderland traditions have long since worn out their welcome. But if you find yourself feeling fatigue at the prospect of enduring a repeat of countless Christmases past, there’s no need to resort to bah humbugs just yet. BATMAN: NOEL offers a fresh, new way to celebrate the season with a classic carol – albeit with a Gotham facelift and a uniquely Batman twist.
From writer/artist Lee Bermejo, BATMAN: NOEL is an oversized, original graphic novel that’s a perfect stocking stuffer for anyone in danger of losing their holiday spirit. Tracing the trajectory of Dickens’ seasonal fable, it’s a cautionary tale warning of the dangers of a frozen heart – with the Dark Knight standing in for Ebenezer Scrooge. It’s the best of both worlds, because even tidings of comfort and joy can sometimes benefit from an injection of gritty Bat-action.
But don’t take my word for it. Here’s what people are saying about BATMAN: NOEL:
“Amazing. This book is a visual treat.” – The New York Times
“Simply terrific.” – Scripps Howard News Service
“The caped crusader channels the gravelly paranoia of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns while a desperate father working for the Joker lends the story its moral weight and inevitable humanitarian payoff.” – Paste Magazine
“Absolutely exquisite… I’d be more than happy to add reading “Batman: Noel” and watching it to my yearly yuletide festivities.” – Yahoo! Movies
“Bermejo has simply created an instant classic with BATMAN NOEL that is larger than any holiday.” – Ain’t It Cool News
“Surprising, new, gorgeous to look at, and also incredibly heartfelt. So you know, the perfect stocking stuffer.” – MTV GEEK
“[Bermejo]’s incorporating his unique style to create a fresh kind of Batman tale, lending it a distinctive flavor that would be impossible for any other artist to replicate.” – IGN
“More than just a regular graphic novel.” – UGO
“Gorgeously illustrated.” – io9

Here in New York, weather forecasts are predicting snowfall on Thursday. It’s just another sign that winter is in full swing and the holidays are just around the corner!
Holiday Gift Guides continue to roll in. ABC NEWS’ show, What’s the Buzz, ran a special Holiday Gift Guide segment on graphic novels, which called out DC COMICS: THE NEW 52 and BATMAN: NOEL. Additionally, they prominently displayed 100 BULLETS, VOL. 1 and THE ANNOTATED SANDMAN (which we suggested to you yesterday in our Holiday Gift Guide series here on THE SOURCE) in the feature.
Speaking of Holiday Gift Guides, AFTER ELLEN ranked the trade paperback edition of BATWOMAN: ELEGY as the top item on their “Gift Guide for the Gay Woman 2011.”
And to keep you in the holiday mood, POPMATTERS has just published a review of the New York Times bestseller, BATMAN: NOEL. “In the end, I’m simply haunted by the beauty of BATMAN: NOEL,” they wrote. “And my wish for you this Holiday Season, is that you will be too.”
To be continued …

Just as the nature of the Firestorm protocol is enhanced by the different personalities that fuel its matrix, THE FURY OF FIRESTORM: THE NUCLEAR MEN will explore new story possibilities with new combinations of its creative team. Beginning with issue #7, Joe Harris will be joining Ethan Van Sciver as co-writer.
Harris is perhaps best known for his work on GHOST PROJEKT, and he has also written some one-shots for DC Comics – including a Scarecrow story for THE JOKER ASYLUM and BATMAN: BATTLE FOR THE COWL: MAN-BAT.
Along with the addition of Harris to the matrix, issue #7 will also find Van Sciver providing both interior and cover art. Yildiray Cinar will remain as the series’ ongoing artist, returning for issue #9 after Van Sciver’s two-part arc as artist.
FIRESTORM’s co-plotter for the first six issues, Gail Simone will remain entrenched in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, focusing her attention on the Gotham City exploits of BATGIRL.
“The secrets are out, the weapons are amassing, and Ronnie and Jason have barely begun to understand the depths in which they’re swimming,” said series editor Rachel Gluckstern. “Once they were normal teens, now they wield incredible powers – and have caused incredible disasters. And it’s only going to get worse. Ethan Van Sciver and Joe Harris are kicking down the doors in this new chapter of THE FURY OF FIRESTORM, taking our heroes into the global arena of politics and power. We’re going to learn the truth about Professor Stein and all the plans he set in place, which are now spiraling out of control. Join us for the thrilling new story — THE FIRESTORM PROTOCOLS!”
