What would drive a Lantern to abandon the ways of willpower for pure rage? We’re not sure, but we’re curious to find out. So, we asked GREEN LANTERN CORPS Editor Adam Schlagman to give us some info. And he was kind enough to throw in some art. So, take it away, Adam:
What could turn the most bad ass Green Lantern into a crimson spewing red one? Find out in Green Lantern Corps #42 (on-sale November 11th) as Guy Gardner experiences a tragedy so utterly terrible that he loses complete control in Green Lantern Corps #43 (December on-sale) leading to his selection by a red ring of rage. Welcome to the Red Lantern Corps, Guy Gardner!
In the meantime, wet your appetite with this awesome design by Green Lantern Corps artist Pat Gleason then pick up Green Lantern Corps #42 on Wednesday to witness the shocking ending that only writer Peter J. Tomasi could tell.

WEDNESDAY COMICS, the groundbreaking weekly series featuring the all-star talents of Neil Gaiman, Joe Kubert, Lee Bermejo, Brian Azzarello, Kurt Busiek and many more, was a critical and commercial success across the board, featuring DC’s greatest characters, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern, in stories from the most talented creators in the industry. For 12 weeks, fans were treated to an historic and energized collection of newspaper strips compiled by editor Mark Chiarello that ranged from standard and captivating superhero drama to the surreal and innovative. But wait, there’s more?
Just announced at the Baltimore Retailer Summit, we’ve got the details on the WEDNESDAY COMICS collection, a topic that’s been hotly debated and prognosticated by fans since the inception of the series.
The hardcover collection of the series, which will retail at $49.99, will clock in at 11 x 17 inches, which will present the series in a deluxe, big-screen format befitting the series, which was originally printed on broadsheet newspaper pages.
So, there you have it. WEDNESDAY COMICS, presented in oversized and deluxe glory. Not too shabby, huh?

NO.
In a very brief interlude with the mighty mite super-hero, the Atom, as he inexplicably jumped out of my phone, I was able to discuss the true nature of these creatures and assemble this list of why the Black Lanterns are not just the undead.
Zombies attack mindlessly.
Black Lanterns have all the characteristics of the living, just meaner.
Zombies growl and don’t speak.
Black Lanterns are nasty taunters.
Zombies want flesh, particular ones want brains.
Black Lanterns seek only our hearts feeding on emotion.
Zombies either shamble or run.
Black Lanterns can float.
Zombies wear the tattered remains of their clothes.
Black Lanterns accessorize their Black Rings with a dark version of their
clothes or costume.
Zombies can be stopped by chopping their heads off.
Black Lanterns reconstitute any limb that is severed.
Zombies have no purpose for rising from the grave.
Black Lanterns …. Do.

Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason pull out all the stops for GREEN LANTERN CORPS #40, as BLACKEST NIGHT continues and the battle on Oa rages on. The honored, fallen Corps members and the recently deceased Sciencell convicts are now bloodthirsty Black Lanterns — and they won’t rest until the bloody hearts and minds of the GLs are literally in their hands. Can John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner stop the Blackest Night from engulfing Sector Zero? We’re not sure, honestly. But these three pages should get you stoked.
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #40 hits 9/2.

We’ve got a ton of exciting BRAVE AND THE BOLD stuff rolling your way right here in the next week or so, but it never hurts to throw out a good teaser image to get people keyed up. And here, we have artist Jesus Saiz’s lovely cover to BRAVE AND THE BOLD #30, written by J. Michael Straczynski with interiors by Saiz. I just read the first issue myself and was even more excited for what’s to come than when I first heard the news. JMS and Saiz are really teaming up to tell some modern classics, and we’re just a few days from the launch. Until then, enjoy some Green Lantern and Dr. Fate goodness.

Two new members sign up in the third issue of writer James Robinson and artist Mauro Cascioli’s CRY FOR JUSTICE mini-series. Just in time, too. With Prometheus captured and his evil plans revealed, the team will need all the additional manpower it can muster to defeat the villain’s master plan. Click below for some pages from the issue, which hits 9/2.

It’s Wednesday. We know that means new comics. More specifically, it means a new issue of WEDNESDAY COMICS. Check out the latest SUPERMAN strip installment over at USA TODAY before you head to the shop.
• Over at AIN’T IT COOL NEWS, “Ambush Bug” talks to BLACKEST NIGHT writer Geoff Johns about his plans for the summer event and beyond. A snippet:
BUG: I know BLACKEST NIGHT is just beginning, but do you have things planned out for what’s next?
GJ: I can’t say much, but I will be on GREEN LANTERN for a long time. I have no plans to leave the book. Next year, GREEN LANTERN is going to be my main focus for the entire year. I’m launching a FLASH monthly book soon and there’s going to be a KID FLASH monthly book by Sterling Gates. Those two books are going to work in unison and explore the Flash in very much the same way GREEN LANTERN and GREEN LANTERN CORPS are tied together right now. They’ll be their own separate books, but then they’ll come together. The idea, some of it comes from BLACKEST NIGHT and REBIRTH, but the idea is to explore what it means to be the Flash, what the Speed Force is, and all that and take it to a different level.
• And, speaking of Geoff, in case you missed it, IGN had a lengthy two-part interview with the writer to discuss the recently-unveiled cover to BLACKEST NIGHT #5, featuring Nekron.
• Over at NEWSARAMA, they’ve got a first look at THE RED CIRCLE: THE WEB.
• Also, the team at iFanboy continue to roll out content from San Diego. Worth a listen.
• THE NEW YORK TIMES talks to Chip Kidd about his work and love of comics, including a snazzy slideshow of his DC work.

Scott Thill, over at WIRED.com’s UNDERWIRE blog sits down with BLACKEST NIGHT writer Geoff Johns for a quick, but very informative interview. So informative that we’re not even going to sample it here. It’s really worth a few minutes of your web time to sit and read the whole thing, which touches on BLACKEST NIGHT, SUPERMAN: SECRET ORIGIN, Ivan Reis’ amazing art and Johns’ own “origin” story.
