You saw the Matthew Clark sketches yesterday, and I did promise more details, so here we go: DOOM PATROL #1, from Keith Giffen and Matthew Clark hits in August and will feature a METAL MEN co-feature by Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis and artist Kevin Maguire (more on that soon). You’ve heard bits and pieces in different venues. but now it’s all here, in one cozy place. More importantly, we wrangled Giffen to give us the lowdown on the book (and, well, why you should check it out), plus some pretty Clark pages (with Giffen’s breakdowns for said pages) to whet your appetite. Take it away, Keith:
“This is the book I’ve waited my entire career to write. Oddly enough, it’s the book Matt’s waited his entire career to draw (and does it ever show!). That’s got to count for something. Between Matt on Doom Patrol and my old partners in “bwah,ha,ha” on Metal Men (that’d be Mark and Kevin, don’tcha know) how can we possibly go wrong?
Well… we could, but we won’t. No. Really.
Tell you what. Pick up a copy, and you tell us.”

What, two news items in one day? Hey, things happen fast here, and we’re happy to keep you posted.
We’ve shown you some sample pages from the first issue of WEDNESDAY COMICS, and that seemed to get folks excited, so why not update you on a very exciting creative addition?
Joining the roster of A-list creators collected by DC Art Director Mark Chiarello to create the weekly WEDNESDAY COMICS is none other than José Luis García-López, who’ll be joining our very own Dan DiDio on the METAL MEN feature. Now, García-López needs no introduction. The man’s been drawing amazing comics for decades. Plus, you don’t want to hear me yammer. Let’s look at the art. Check out a page from METAL MEN, below.
Did I mention he’ll be inked by Kevin Nowlan? Double good, yes?
WEDNESDAY COMICS #1 hits July 8.

Monday, Monday…What more can I say? To help in your efforts to grin and get through the first day of the work week (or what’s left of it), here are a few things you might have missed over the weekend:
• The New York Times released their Graphic Books Best Seller list for the week of April 4. BATMAN: RIP, BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE, JOKER, ALL STAR SUPERMAN v2, GREEN LANTERN: SINESTRO CORPS WAR v1 and BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS all made the list in some form.
• Comic Book Resources and IGN both gave GREEN LANTERN #39 high marks. IGN also spoke to Geoff Johns about the issue, and the build-up to BLACKEST NIGHT:
IGN Comics: The Sinestro Corps War really took people by surprise and came out of leftfield for a lot of readers. Now that all eyes are on the Green Lantern franchise and Blackest Night, has it been daunting at all trying to live up to all the lofty expectations?
Johns: No. I’m just telling the story the best I can. This is a story I always planned to tell. And it’s grown organically, which is my favorite thing about it.
• Newsarama has their regularly-scheduled preview of the latest TRINITY issue. They also spoke to J.M. DeMatteis about his upcoming work on the METAL MEN co-feature, which will be appearing in the pages of the new DOOM PATROL series this summer.
• MYSPACE Comics previewed the latest issue of SUPERMAN/BATMAN.
• Also at CBR, Chris Yost talk about his upcoming work on RED ROBIN.
