There was more than one DC staffer honored by the fine folks at Comic-Con last weekend, and in case you missed Saturday’s DCU Editorial Presentation, we’re more than happy to share the info here.
Bob Wayne, our VP-Sales, was honored with his very own Inkpot Award, commemorating his years of service to the industry and with Comic-Con. And by “commemorating” I mean being roasted in front of fans, colleagues and friends alike with a series of old photos and a funny video segment that I’ll keep exclusive to those that were in attendance (you can thank me later, Bob).
Despite the surprise, Bob was kind enough to talk to us about the award.
“Comic-Con has been an important part of my career for the last thirty years,” Bob said. “I’m grateful to the convention’s organizers for this award and I look forward to many more years of working with them.”
So, Bob, here’s a blog salute, for all your hard work and dedication over the years. More importantly, for being a good sport and letting your friends heckle you on the biggest stage possible.

In addition to the previously mentioned Fallon bit, the San Diego coverage is slowly rolling in, and we’ve got the first bunch of cool links for you here. Because that’s what we do, no?
• Newsarama’s Vaneta Rogers talked to DC President and Publisher Paul Levitz and SVP of Sales and Marketing Steve Rotterdam about DC’s presence on Google.com last week. She also chatted up writer Matt Sturges about the newly-announced JSA ALL STARS series.
• IO9’s Graeme MacMillan covered a lot of ground in this must-read interview with our very own Dan DiDio.
• G4 anchor and star of BOOSTER GOLD #23’s cover, Blair Butler talked to Senior Story Editor Ian Sattler to get the lowdown on all things DCU and also got a very special souvenir from Paul Levitz.
We’ll post more as the hits continue to appear, including Dan on a yacht. Stay tuned.

I usually go for some kind of pun or play on words with my headlines here at The Source — or maybe I just think I do — but this one should be as clear as possible, because it’s pretty cool.
In a segment taped on Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con, LATE NIGHT host Jimmy Fallon talked to our very own Dan DiDio and BLACKEST NIGHT writer Geoff Johns. The concept? Well, Jimmy was — like many other aspiring comic pros — shopping an idea around. Specifically, “The Recharger,” a hero who can…well, “recharge” your cell phone….Seriously.
I’m not doing the skit justice here, so best to just go take a look for yourself: LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON has video of the entire segment.
And, as an added bonus, here are some photos my shaky hands took with my Blackberry while the segment was being taped.

The dust has settled, and we’ve chalked up another San Diego Comic-Con. There’ve been a ton of great moments and even more exciting stories to tell, but, believe it or not — we have to get on a plane in a few minutes. So, needless to say, posting will be relatively light today. And, by “relatively light,” I mean, this is it.
Tomorrow, we’ve got a roundup of all the major DCU news from the con, a few cool pictures from the show and much more.
I’m getting ready to board my flight back to New York, and while we’re all exhausted, the show was a definite success all around. See you in a few hours.

The announcement has come over the PA, the fans are slowly heading toward the exits and you can almost see the carpet of the convention halls. It’s been a great show, and we’re glad you guys got to get a taste of the excitement here on The Source.
We’re looking forward to a quiet dinner, lots of sleep and a few minutes that don’t involve shaking hands or running around a booth, but what a show. If you swung by the booth and said hello, thanks. If you couldn’t make it out but managed to keep up with us here on the blog, thanks as well.
We’ll be back bright and early tomorrow with a detailed roundup of all things relating to San Diego from across the internets, but for now, we’re trying to find a seat. In the meantime, check out our events page for photos, audio and more from the show.

We’re entering the final lap here at Comic Con. The fans are running around to snatch up last-minute deals, the staffers are looking a little glazed over – but the energy in the convention center is still high.
And what better way to close out the con than a Sunday Conversation panel? Dan started these a few years back and the idea really stuck. I even had the pleasure of sitting on one of them way back when.
These are a personal favorite for me because the concept is simple: Fans and pros alike sit around and talk about their love of comics. Since it’s probably too late for you to hop on a plane and make the panel, why not create a version of the panel here, on The Source?
What was your first comic? What’s your earliest comic book memory? What do you look for in a book? Characters, creators, writing, art? Was there ever a time you left comics? What brought you back?
All are questions that have been asked in the past and may be asked in a few short minutes when the panel kicks off. So why not answer them here, in the comments?
Consider this an Open Thread Sunday Conversation.

Surely, you’ve been keeping up with all the news and goodies going on here at San Diego from the comfort of your home, via The Source…right?
Well, we’re also posting a ton of photos and panel audio, covering every single panel and DC-related event. Swing by our conventions hub and check it out. It’s almost like you’re here. Sort of.
The crowds are still in full force here. Hard to believe there’s only a day left.
If you are around San Diego, why not swing by and say hello? We’ll be in the booth with the giant “DC Comics” logo. You can’t miss it.

What a fitting way to end a remarkable run.
The 2009 Eisners also saw writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely once again recognized for their amazing work on ALL STAR SUPERMAN, with the series being honored with the Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series.
There’s very little I can say to do a classic book like this justice, but suffice to say the award is greatly deserved, the creators should take a minute to bask in the glow and anyone who loves comics should realize that their respective collections are far from complete without this series on their shelves.

Yes, indeed friends, those are the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS you see below. What does this mean? Well, it’s simple – in the same way the Milestone and Red Circle characters have been integrated into regular DCU continuity, so will the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS. That’s pretty much all we’ve got to say at this point, aside from the lovely designs by superstar artist J.G. Jones you see here.
And this bit of info is just the tip of the proverbial iceburg here at San Diego, as everyone is settling in for the DCU Editorial Presentation in Room 6B. Dan, Ian Sattler and a few special guests will be talking shop on all things DCU, including BLACKEST NIGHT, WEDNESDAY COMICS, BATMAN, SUPERMAN, RED CIRCLE and lots more. So come join us, why don’t you?

As promised, there was more going on at the DC booth on Friday beyond breaking Guinness World Records. Yesterday, DC Comics President and Publisher Paul Levitz was honored with a shiny, new — and upgraded — Inkpot Award by Comic-Con International in a surprise ceremony. Paul was originally honored with the award in 2002 — now, that award has gotten a bit of spit and polish.
The Inkpot Awards have been presented since 1974, and are given as a sign of recognition to guests of Comic-Con and also from members of Comic-Con’s committee and Board of Directors.
It was an honor to be present for this, which happened toward the end of the day yesterday amidst the hustle and bustle of a fun, energized show, and we’re doubly honored to have the opportunity to congratulate Paul on the award, since we didn’t have the chance to when he was originally presented with it. So, an upgraded congrats, Paul. You deserve it.
