Wonder Woman: Criminal? Could be…

Friday, November 20th, 2009

By Alex Segura

Wonder Woman’s world is turned upside-down as she finds herself branded a criminal by her own people. And who are the Crows, and what awful secret do they carry that will affect Diana forever? I can’t reveal it all here, of course, but I can show off a few pages from WONDER WOMAN #38, courtesy of Gail Simone and artist Aaron Lopresti, which hits 11/25.

WONDER WOMAN TALLY: An update

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

By Alex Segura

Happy Monday, Source gang. It’s been a while since we updated you on the Wonder Woman #600 postcard tally, mostly because we’ve been inundated by the response from fans. And while we’re holding off on giving you the final number, I do want to let you know that we’re ending the call for postcards. So, if you got to send one, great. If not, the gig is up.

And I know what the next question is — “Did we make it?” Well, we’re not telling yet. And I know what the question after that will be — “If we did make it, will the numbering go back to #600?” We’re not telling there, either. But rest assured we’ll have some interesting news for you in the coming weeks. Many thanks to all that participated, and stay tuned.

Unveiling the details on the WEDNESDAY COMICS collection

Monday, October 12th, 2009

By Alex Segura

wed-copy-copy

WEDNESDAY COMICS, the groundbreaking weekly series featuring the all-star talents of Neil Gaiman, Joe Kubert, Lee Bermejo, Brian Azzarello, Kurt Busiek and many more, was a critical and commercial success across the board, featuring DC’s greatest characters, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern, in stories from the most talented creators in the industry. For 12 weeks, fans were treated to an historic and energized collection of newspaper strips compiled by editor Mark Chiarello that ranged from standard and captivating superhero drama to the surreal and innovative. But wait, there’s more?

Just announced at the Baltimore Retailer Summit, we’ve got the details on the WEDNESDAY COMICS collection, a topic that’s been hotly debated and prognosticated by fans since the inception of the series.

The hardcover collection of the series, which will retail at $49.99, will clock in at 11 x 17 inches, which will present the series in a deluxe, big-screen format befitting the series, which was originally printed on broadsheet newspaper pages.

So, there you have it. WEDNESDAY COMICS, presented in oversized and deluxe glory. Not too shabby, huh?

Weekly Wonder Woman Tally: 324

Friday, September 25th, 2009

By Alex Segura

Well, we’re in week two of coverage of the WONDER WOMAN #600 campaign and, what do you know? We’ve already crossed the midway point. As of now, we have about 324 postcards sent in from fans asking for WONDER WOMAN’s numbering to be reverted to #600 at the appropriate time. Seems like the tide is turning, eh?

Because I like to pretend I’m an enterprising journalist of some kind, with Dan DiDio’s consent I swung by his office and took a few photos of the many postcards already decorating the adjoining walls. And while the picture quality isn’t great — thanks to my shaky hands and lack of skills — you can still get a sense of what we’re dealing with here.

So, keep ‘em coming, guys. If you want to see this happen, send your postcards to this address:

WONDER WOMAN #600
c/o Dan DiDio
1700 Broadway
New York, NY, 10019

And, of course, stay tuned to The Source for more updates and info.

Robinson. Bagley. Justice League of America. Now.

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

By Alex Segura

It all starts here. Writer James Robinson pairs with superstar artist Mark Bagley to begin their run on JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA. You’ve heard rumblings and speculation, you’ve read the chatter around the interwebs. But now’s your chance to get a first-look at the new creative team’s take on the most storied team in the DCU. To sweeten the pot, we threw in a variant cover by Andy Kubert. Happy Thursday.

Oh, and is that Despero?

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #38 hits 10/21.

Feel the aftershocks from ‘The Rise of the Olympian’ in WONDER WOMAN #36

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

By Alex Segura

It’s not a stretch to say writer Gail Simone and artist Aaron Lopresti’s “The Rise of the Olympian” arc changed Wonder Woman’s life completely, and it’s not over for our favorite Amazon. In this issue, Diana finds herself fighting for her life against the man chosen by the gods to replace her — Achilles, the Warkiller. Doesn’t sound like much fun. At least for her. We’ve got a few pages here, though, for those us standing on the sideline and looking to be entertained.

WONDER WOMAN #36 hits 9/30.

WEEKLY WONDER WOMAN TALLY: 175

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

By Alex Segura

Huh? What’s the Weekly Wonder Woman Tally, you say? Well, glad you asked.

Not long ago, Dan DiDio mentioned the fan debate regarding Wonder Woman’s upcoming “600th” issue. Lots of people have asked Dan to revert the book to it’s original numbering to commemorate the event. Far from being a pushover, Dan said that if fan response — in the form of postcards — was strong enough, he’d consider it. And by strong, we mean “600 postcards” strong. Get it?

Well, we here at The Source are all about keeping you informed on not only the stuff coming out of our offices, but the stuff going on in our offices. And, suffice to say, Dan’s been getting a lot of mail of late. But we’re nowhere close to reaching the point of consideration. As the headline points out, the total postcard tally is hovering at 175. How badly do you want this to happen, dear readers?

As the mail continues to pour in, we’ll continue to keep you posted here. Well, for as long as we can reach our keyboard amidst the flood of letters. Stay tuned.

Can the SECRET SIX survive a split?

Friday, September 4th, 2009

By Alex Segura

War is declared on the new Devil’s Island, and the Secret Six are facing off against themselves. On opposite sides and ready to die — or kill! — for their causes, the Six are in a tight spot. But what are they fighting over that’s strong — and brutal — enough to take down Wonder Woman herself? Only Gail Simone and artist Nicola Scott know. But the preview pages below will give you a hint.

SECRET SIX #13 hits 9/9.
