Why stop at two, huh?
On Friday, we slammed the week shut with the debut of the cover to BATMAN: RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE #2, but there are a few more jaw-droppingly gorgeous “Batmen” waiting for some blog time, so why hold off on the Andy Kubert goodness?
So, before you head home, check out the amazing covers to #3 and #4. Enjoy.
Pirate Batman’s pretty cool, huh?

I’m sorry, my brain just exploded from pure awesome.
LOL! @ thecoyotegospel
Yeah - these are going to be some fun books. It’s almost like Marvel’s “What If” books…What if Batman were a pirate or What if Batman were a cowboy in the old West. I can’t wait to read these.
…and I was just going to say: Pirate Batman is pretty cool - but, Alex beat me to the punch.
The skull and cross bones Bat Flag is awesome!
Bad ass. When does this series launch? and what are the last 2 kinds of Batmen are we getting?

This rox
THANK YOU DC FOR MAKING ME SO HYPE WITH THIS AWESOME COVERS!
This is going to be sweet. Looks like a lot of fun!!!! I wonder when this is going to start?
This should be a hoot! I hope this mini is played with a lighter tone than most Batman events, and just goes with the oddness of it all.
The only Batbook I’ve been buying lately is Detective, and I’ll drop that and move to the Batwoman solo when it happens, because the post-”Battle for the Cowl” scenario seriously bugs me. This, on the other hand, should be the best thing to come out of the whole “Bruce is gone” era. (Except the hoped-for moment when Bruce goes up to Tim and pulls off the Red Robin cowl, and says “It’s over. I’m back.”)
@glassjaw - April, I think.
@thecoyotegospel - Agreed. This is so awesome!!! Pirate!Batman is definitely the awesomest, although Cowboy!Batman is pretty cool too. Gleeful squee is now leaking out of my ears.

P-I-R-A-T-E BATMAN, nuff said.
I really love how the background in all covers connect together to make bat symbol. really creative.
The last two issues will be 20’s private investigator Batman and normal Batman.
So Bruce Wayne is the new Hawkman now, huh?
@thecoyotegospel: I’m sorry, my brain just exploded from pure awesome.
You and me both!

It’s even more awesome than that. It’s totally Morrison’s way of working in those out-of-continuity trippy stories from yesteryear with Batman the Barbarian and stuff! This is going to be so sweet!
Cool Cowboy/Ranger Batman! Like so sexy!!
Pity South Africa doesn’t get this comic

Here’s something to consider…What if Bruce Wayne is traveling through what appears to be different time periods within the the different 52 Earths. This would explain the Batman-like motif as well as the familiar character portrayals.
This would be possible if he somehow absorbed a small portion of Darkseid’s Omega Beam (Batman is always prepared). He could use the different versions of himself that exist throughout the 52 Earths as “breadcrumbs” to find his way back home to Earth-1. The final earth that he visits could have his “real” body that was displaced by the Omega Beam.
This would tie up all of the loose ends in Final Crisis, Batman and Robin, and make for an interesting adventure that is not too reminiscent to Captain America: Reborn, although similar.
On a slightly different note; I have a a lot of faith in the creative staff at DC comics to do something more than tell the story that Marvel has already told on a “grander scale”. DC Comics are the original superheroes comic universe so it is time that Grant Morrison and others start acting like it. Say “Yes!” to my theory and no to a story about a Batman-like character that has influenced the DC universe thorough out time on Earth-1. It is also important to remember that most of the alternate Bat-Men (From Elseworld stories) were designated Earths in the 52 universes.

So happy this is coming. I only wish it was longer and had started earlier. There is such a big jump in “time” between Caveman and Witch Hunter; it would have been fun to see a couple time periods in between these two.
I’m really looking forward to this series and these covers look wonderful. I really enjoy that when assembled the horizon line across all six covers should display a giant bat symbol. I didn’t think anything of the upward sloping curved horizon in issues 1 & 2, but the crests of the wings and the head (with eyes) on 3 & 4 made it obvious. I look forward to the curving downward slope of covers 5 & 6.
But I am more eager to see one of these covers in color to get an indication of how well the images will blend together. Since each image’s foregrounds vary wildly and do not extend past their border, it will be heavily reliant on a consistent tone and palate to hold the image together. I have high hopes that the final images will follow through on the promise of these inked pages. Not to mention the series itself!
Batman, In 52 Earths, uhmmmm, is one Frikiante Idea, but not are posible or Yes….
I guess this is where “Multiversity” comes in.
